Recurring Pine Weevils on Healthy White Pines in New jersey

Hello Gardening fans!
I am in NJ and we have 4 very healthy and thriving white pines. They are about 15-20 feet tall now.

Every year we have to have the tree service come and snip out the leaders due to the pine weevil. I had read that they won't attack the trees after a certain height, but that is not happening for us.

The tree guy said we seem to be the only people in our area having this issue every year. He is perplexed because the trees are very healthy and thriving, and tall.

Can anyone tell us why this may be occurring and what we can do about it? We lost one of the trees in the first 3 years due to this weevil, and don't want it to happen again.

Have you tried treating with a systemic insecticide? You can treat with imidacloprid in the fall and by spring the pesticide should be taken up the tree and will start killing the insects as they feed on the tree. You might have to do it for two seasons to get the full effect. Make sure you read the environmental hazards on the label of anything you use. These sort of pesticides are toxic to aquatic creatures and invertebrates.

imidacloprid is the only thing that killed the weevils here...different kind but same evil results.
look for a bayer liquid or granular product with imidacloprid as the active ingredient.
