spider eating baby peach tree leaves?

I've noticed something has been eating my baby peach tree leaves, and spying "poop" I studied carefully to see what was leaving it....... and came eyeball to eyeball with a rather ugly spider spread out lengthwise down the center of a leaf. Could he be what's eating the poor little tree?

Pretty unlikely, as spiders are generally carnivores, not plant eaters. It's more likely feeding on whatever is eating the leaves, assuming it's not actually a total bystander in this.
