I pruned off a fast-growing new growth on my one-year old Sally Holmes rose in my garden (I thought it was a sucker...it wasn't!) Will this have a permanent adverse effect on my beautiful climber? Will it send up another strong growth this summer?
Sally Holmes Climber Question
Pruning that new growth shouldn't effect it. A good rule of thumb for new climbers is not to prune them for the first 3 years so that they develop nice long canes and establish a good framework. Just be careful next time lol.
Thank you JasperDale for your kind response. Whew! I am so relieved to hear my rash action won't harm my Sally Holmes. I will take your advice and avoid pruning my climber for three years to enable it to grow strong long canes.
