I was told that as soon as a bloom fades on a stella de oro plant cut it down to the bottom of the stalk and that will encourage more blooms. I did this last year and the plants never bloomed again during the remainder of the season. This year I am afraid to cut back the faded stalks - any suggestions.

when all the flowers have bloomed and wilted on a stalk, it's OK to cut it off. A real Stella should rebloom if growing well. Might not rebloom if stressed, might not be a true Stella D'Oro

Ditto that. Even the ones planted in the parking lot curbs bloom most of the season and that's with no care at all.

Reminds me, I had daylilies in the front for a couple years (other kinds) that never bloomed. Too dry for them. So don't give up on the Stellas, just up your care and watering.
