One of the lower leaves on my coleus plant has a big brown patch on it. It had it when I bought it, but it's got much bigger. Should I take off the leaf and if so, how do I do that? Do I cut it or pull it off? If I need to cut it, where should I make the cut. Also, what's the difference between pruning scissors and normal scissors?

For soft plants, no wood, it does not matter whether you use regular scissors or pruning tools.
Snip off the leaf as close to the stem as you can, but look before you do this.
Coleus have buds right above where the leaf is growing, and these buds can grow, and make the plant denser. So cut off the damaged leaf, but do not hurt the bud.
Perhaps the bud has already grown and there is a branch there. Don't hurt the branch.
