Weather Watching Summer

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I saw barely emerging yellow color from a Rudbeckia this evening- forgot if it was hirta or a perennial.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

No bes here but heleopsis have been blooming for a week now. Daylilies starting too.. a d other plants are just starting to sprout. Crazy. Winter killed my big fig tree to the ground but it's coming back from the roots now.

Planned a crafty play date for tomorrow in anticipation of rainstorms...think we'll get much? Missing Joyanna so need some kid time regardless.

Rain predicted for today? I didn't realize that! And here I've planned to go out in about 1/2 hour to do some watering... Well, I guess I will anyway - just because the weather man says it may rain doesn't mean it will! =)

I don't have any Black Eyed Susans blooming, but I do have 2 Echinacea blooms now, and several buds. I've also finally got some blooms on those little frilly wispy plants that are growing around the base of the Paeony. I'll get some pics later when I go outside to play a bit.

My Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' are starting to bloom as well! What I thought was my R. hirta 'Denver Daisy' bloomed as well, but it doesn't look anything like the plant I had last year, so right now I'm not sure whether the seed didn't come true, or whether I got the plant placement mixed up and it's not R. hirta but something else...

1) What I think is my R. hirta Denver Daisy from last year, but last year's had a marked brown center, and this is yellow throughout. Seeds didn't come true?
2) R. fulgida 'Goldsturm'--1st 3 blooms, more buds ready to open

Cat, they (Denver Daisy) are a cross between a R. Hirta and R. Prairie Sun, and I think it's probable that your new plants simply did not come true to (from?) seed. From what I'm reading, they are considered a short-lived perennial but often treated like an annual, but self-seed readily, even if they do not come true. < =/ Your new babies sure are pretty though, regardless!! =)

thanks, Speedie. yes, I think you're right! I'll probably put it up for adoption for the fall swap. I'd like to look for a new one that has a rich brown center!

Parkville, MD(Zone 7b)

Muddy, yes I have BES that have just started blooming in the last few days. Will post in the blooms thread.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Hopefully we'll get a shot of rain today. Things are starting to get dry.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We do need rain, Sat. was no measurable amt. I'm already dragging hoses. When our black hoses lie out in the sun I'm afraid to water the plants right away, the water is too hot to hold your hand under, no tellin' what it would do to plants. I just dump all the hot water into the pool as it's still chilly.

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

The radar isn't very promising :(

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

Maybe we could all go outside in our yardens and sweat a lot..??

OK... maybe NO! =)

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

Haha...then we'd come back inside and look like raisins....

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

I like raisins! < =D

Vienna, VA(Zone 7a)

My BES normally bloom in August and are normally 2x as tall when they start blooming. I think the winter messed them up.

We got some rain here - enough so that I regret taking time to water seedlings, but not so much that I regret watering new shrubs and trees.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

We are still in the middle of a T-storm--lightning anf thunder
and a heavy rainfall.
It is still raining...and rumbling...and lightning still flashing--but, it is
on it's way to over.

GREAT! We needed this rain! And--whomever is assigned to water
at the HD tomorrow, won't have to water any of the shrubs and trees and
anything on the tables out front.

Things jammed on shelves on racks is a different story....

I am not back to work until Sunday. G.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

We had a storm roll through here also.

Somewhere in, MD(Zone 7b)

We had about 5 minutes of thunder roll through here, and about 10 minutes of rain.. that's it.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We had a big rain storm here last night, too. I have been waiting for one so I could go and finish weeding that long wide sunshine bed by the Veggie Garden. Weeding after a good rain is the best time especially in that bed. There are a lot of Sea Oats growing in that bed to weed out. Gita, you did warn me, but I couldn't resist planting them.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

We had a thunder storm just over our house. There was only about a second delay between lightening and thunder, and the whole house shook. But it didn't rain all that much. :( Maybe 1/10 inch. I guess I'll be watering again later today.

Silver Spring, MD(Zone 7a)

So glad for the rain last night!

looks like it's time for a new thread! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1366506/

Lititz, PA(Zone 6b)

We got 1.13" yesterday. Even though a lot of it came pretty hard and fast, I'm glad to have had it. The ground was just moist enough to soak a lot of it up.
