What gets me though is the plants that look stressed when the pot is well watered. At that point, the watering gets cut off and that plant is placed on 'watch', which basically means don't water it as much as the others. I have a Centranthus Ruber that's like that right now. I'm sure once it's in the ground it will behave properly though.
Weather Watching Summer
oooh I read some hateful comments from Centranthus Ruber owners. Thug Alert.
Plants that look stressed but don't need water are committing suicide in most gardeners' care! It's really hard not to offer a drink to the suffering.
LOL...yeah for sure on the drink thing. I get it though I think.
I have enough thugs that I'm not worried about this guy. It might have some trouble establishing this year since most of the plants around it's planting spot are fairly grown. It will be planted amongst Raspberry Wine Monarda that's already there and the conoclinium coelestinum that I got from Muddy. It will be a thugfest!
Not sure how much rain we got last night, but it seemed like a lot. I met Jill for dinner to bring her the chairs she left at the swap. When we left the restaurant, it was just starting to drizzle, but within 5 minutes of getting on the road it was torrential. I got home just as Lowell was pulling up the driveway on his motorcycle, boy was he soaked!
I was glad for the rain though for the containers' sake. I have an irrigation system that does automatic watering of the garden, but it isn't set up to do the containers. Even with water crystals, I'm finding that the containers need to be watered every day, otherwise they look all stressed and wilty. Miss watering on two hot days in a row spells disaster.
Such a BEAUTIFUL over-cast, not-too-hot, WONDERFUL day today!! The sun finally came out early afternoon, but it wasn't hot.. and I was on the porch/deck at work most of the day anyhow, in the shade. Wheee!!!
Ric and Jeff, I was DEFINITELY NOT talking about you when I talked about the watering.. it's the "certain other boys" who are just not paying attention. You guys are PROS, you don't count when it comes to grumbling! < =D
We got completely soaked & had winds tossing trailers all over the interstate today...looks like we'll get this stuff for the next 5-6 days! No watering needed! :-)
Yikes Becky, you be careful, ok??
oh no, that sounds scary! be safe!
WHOA, trailer-tossing winds sound scary!!!!
Way scarier than dwarf-tossing!
Dwarf tossing? LOL are you referring to human dwarves?
Heeheeee, no, "Lord of the Rings" dwarfs!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKrei80jBg8
OH LOL!
My apologies, I have a really dorky sense of humour sometimes. < =/ Becky, you all safe over there???
Really glad I got done all I wanted to do this weekend; I see now that the storms predicted to start tomorrow are actually supposed to start late this afternoon/early evening. Pheewwww, bullet dodged!!
haha, I wasn't sure where the dwarf tossing came form but I knew somebody'd pony up with a link soon enough.
DId you see that cruise ship ad it started with? "Luxury, danish design, bla bla..". everything pristine and empty. Now imagine it packed with 5,000 total strangers LOL.
ahh Viggo.............
Viggo Mortensen! Sigh... :)
total geek here, didn't need the link at all. I've read LOTR dozens of times. :-)

Just don't tell the elf!!!LOL
We got very little rain so far. With all the work we got done yesterday and Saturday, a good shower would be welcome. I still have plenty to do with or without rain. Then there is always house work.LOL I also need to go shopping.:-}
We didn't get as much rain as I would have liked here, either. :-( Emphasis on 'isolated' in the 'isolated thunderstorms' prediction...
The sun keeps peeking through and it's now like a sauna here, you can work up a sweat just by breathing. LOL
So far, this summer feels hotter to me than last year! Hotter and more muggy. :-b
cat--
wasn't it last summer that set a record for days over 100*?
I think it was 23 days--or such--OVER 100*. How soon we forget!
Yes! it is muggy---Been outside since late Am digging up and amending
my raised bed (with shredded leaves) as that is my last "frontier" to deal with.
Will plant in there anything I have left over--that fits--of course.
May even consider planting my "Yaku Prince" Rhodo in one corner...
Have NO other place to put it....The "Prince" without a "Throne"....
Yesterday--ALL day--I was watering plants across the street--on the parking Lot.
"The Corral" as we call it. A slew of carts with annuals, in various sized pots or trays.
Did all the flowering stuff--then went to lunch--then came back and continued
on with the other half --all shrubs of all kinds and all sizes of pots.
What makes this all SO hard is that everything is jammed on the carts--you can't
even tell where the pots are...have to guess...
Barely finished by the time I had to go home--6PM. Non stop--in the blazing sun...
Doing the same here at home--and back tomorrow to HD to do the same thing...
NO end to it.... Hey! The positive side---I have a nice tan!
Teee..heee..wore my straw hat for the 1st time--the one I got last year at Goodwill.
Not as bad as I thought.... Kept the sun out of my eyes... Cute!
G.
Gita, we will need a pic of you in it, of course! =) And, are you wearing your sunblock too, Young Lady!? < =P
Glad to hear your Prince has a throne now,.. and it's not in the house! heeheeheee
Not getting to play outside like I used to at work anymore.. it's sorta a bummer. Oh well, I do get to play inside with customers; in person and on the phone. Better than a poke in the eye, right? ;)
SS--
I generally do not wear any sun-block. Don't seem to need it...I tan fairly easily
and seldom burn.
Of course--my arms and face are the 2 main parts of my bod that are exposed.
Legs..not so much...
I can tell how much tan I have by looking under my wrist watch. I never take it off...
There's a white line on my wrist.
Will try to get a picture of me in this hat. I HATE hats...never owned on..and never wear any.
BUT--out in the sun all day--and getting blinded when watering HB.'s--I decided to do it.
G.
AAAHHHH. Viggo, indeed!!!! Swoon!!
Pretty muggy here today, ICK!!!
Yup it's steamy...but I think I'm part plant, I like little humidity.
Jeez Catmint, its pretty early in summer to be complaining about how hot it is!?!? LOL
Viggo is a major cutie, but Hugh Jackman is more my style... speaking of "hot"! heeheeheee
... and, speaking of weather and hot - have you guys stepped outside yet this morning!? ICK indeed!! I'm hoping we have already reached our high for the day 'cause if it gets ickier than this later, I am going to HAVE to turn the ac on in that shop today!! It's already like a sauna out there. Jesus Bring The Rain!! (one of my favourite songs!) =)
Yeah, I think it's really the humidity more than the actual heat! It is *so muggy*.
I may be a plant but I'm not a rainforest plant- too damp for my liking too.
If I want steamy, I just think Ryan Gosling.
Although Liam Neeson could stand by just in case, and Sean Connery sure held up well for a long time.......
I broke down yesterday and turned the AC on. After all I had to make sure it was working, right? RIGHT? She said wanting affirmation. Hehehe. And it's only for one day, cuz we won't be back til August. Jeff tried to pay ahead on most of the bills, so we don't have to bother with that.
Raining, so I'll wait a bit to start carting the cold food into the RV. Pretty much packed up other than that. Doing sheets and towels, now.
Didn't he though?!!!!!
I love Liam Neeson! So heartbreaking about his wife... :-(
Jan, I won't tell you how long I've had my AC running now! ;-)
Jan, you're only now turning on the AC? Wow!
I have had my AC in for the last 2 days---even though I am keeping it
set near 78-80*. Just enough to get the muck out of the house.
Just heard on radio--It is 77* here. It is 10AM.
Supposed to go to mid-80's later.
Wonderful! I work 2PM-7PM today. Weird shift for me????
G.
We'll need AC for the first time tonight, i'm sure. To dry it out mostly. That is what AC does for the first chunk of time its on, just lowers humidity.
We've had the A/C going for a few weeks now. I can't sleep when it's hot and humid and those dang birds are chirping at 4am....
When Momma can't sleep, Momma ain't happy. When Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
Steve has not turned the A/C on in the house yet and hasn't put the window unit in in my big room. I need to get some of the heat reflecting window film for the big window in that room, it heats the room up horribly.
We haven't put the window unit in yet not sure we will. Josh is putting in a heat/AC unit for us hope fully in the next 2-3 weeks. After last winter with Ric's back surgery and my moving more than 4 tons of coal we both said "Uncle" it's time for something we don't have to tend to every day. There will be some coal and wood here for the, just in case.
Took advantage of the soft ground from last nights rain to do a bit of weeding this morning. It was buggy and steamy out there. Ric was doing the same thing, cleaning up the glads and Veggie Garden.
There are water rescues happening right now in PG County, MD. They got something like 3 inches of rain in an hour.
Holly--
Maybe you Guys can also put in a whole House Humidifier while you are at it???
It sure helps during the dry, heated air in the winter. It also has a huge, favorable
effect on all your plants, your breathing, and your skin..
Mine is attached to the Furnace unit--and water trickles down through a thingie
with a filter where the air also flows through--humidifying the whole house.
You can set the %-age of dryness you want. I keep mine as high as I can--40%.
No dry sinuses---No stuffy noses--NO dry air...etc...
Now--IF your water is very expensive you will pay for all the extra water.
BUT--You Guys have a well--YES? that will help.
It is worth doing this--believe me! Gita
