Last year my rhubarb turned brown so i dug it up & moved it right next to the compost heap. This year the leaves are enormous.....rhubarb is okay. Just made one pie out of it but i left some stalks. Is too much energy going into the leaves? Should i move it again? Are the leaves safe to put into the compost heap after i shred them? Or should I enter them into the Rhubarb Leaf Hall of Fame! many thanks, AnnFran NY zone 5
Rhubarb extra large leaves
Mind taking a picture? From the sound of it, it's doing very well. I have never grown rhubarb before, so I can't say for sure.
There's nothing wrong with your rhubarb. It's probably just enjoying extra soil fertility from runoff from the composter, and it's responding exactly as it should.
Yes, you can put rhubarb leaves in the composter - there's no need to shred them, as there's nothing woody about them.
