Hello,
I am in need of help! We just recently put up chainlink fence for out dog run in the back yard, I had started planting morning glories and sweet peas and just recently discovered that they are both very toxic (one deadly) to my dogs. As I am needing these vines to create a wall for their run I need a plant that is completely non toxic as Storm, the youngest dog LOVES to nibble on plants. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada - not sure which zone that would be considered, we have very hot summers and very cold winters so if anyone knows a vine that can meet these needs I would be very apprecative!
thanks!
Dogs and Climbing Vines
Saskatchewan gets very cold, and this will limit what you can grow. Since the USDA zones do not go that far north, I would use something like North Dakota or Montana as a starting place. (Use zone 2. Zone 1 is northern Alaska) If a plant would grow in ND or Montana, it would probably grow in Saskatchewan. I would start with a list of what vines might grow in your area, then check that list against something like this:
