The salvia will root in water, perlite, or even in soil. If not doing the water method, dip them in rooting powder and keep them moist not dripping. Make sure you cut just below a node, and fresh green growth always works best for me when rooting cuttings. Good luck!! :))
SHOOTIN THE BREEZE WITH DG BUDS
Good advice from Becky, one other thing, be sure you keep them in the shade until they are rooted.
Becky Jr is absolutely correct, and I must
emphasize the crucial importance of using
the youg tips (new growth) to succeed.
This true of many many plants, such as
rosemary, coleus, mint, and a lot of others.
Yay! The link to Becky's Allium Co-op!
Oh man I wish I had the $$ to get in on that! Some of those allium and tulips are to die for!!
I haven't had a minute yet to post pics..
They are breathtaking ! :)
Haha I just googled them all! The ice cream and purple pop up tulip are amazing! And the ivory queen and schumanii allium too :))
Why oh why can't I have a fairy godmother who brings me all the plants my heart desires? Oh wait, that's what RU is for!! LOL
LOL.
I am lusting after all of them, but Ambassador &
Ice Cream tulips in particular.
Good work, Baja! Congrats!
It looks like I'm going to get a bit of extra time in the garden. I have cellulitis in both my legs, so my doctor placed some work restrictions on me which my employer cannot accommodate. I'm not sure why they can't, but they placed me on a leave of absence for at least a week, if not two. Of course, it's unpaid. Grumble, grumble...stupid body!
Poor steph. They would wait for summer heat to do it! Keep your feet elevated!
Stephanie, I am sorry about your skin infection, please take care, follow the doctor's orders and get well soon.
Speaking of pots (on a different thread), does anyone in the general Dallas area know where I can buy hanging baskets? I want the kind that I guess are now thought to be old-fashioned. The plastic ones with wire hangers. I'd especially like smaller ones that are maybe 6 inchers. Found some, not many, on ebay but the shipping charges are outrageous. Plus they don't have wire hangers. I've checked with Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Big Lots, etc as well as local nurseries. But there could be some small nurseries that I don't know about. Or other big box stores I haven't tried. Please please help if you know of a source. Thanks.
Cute pic Flowerchild :) Sorry can't help with the hanging pots..
Steph, how's the cellulitis? You get any relief?
The cellulitis is GONE! As long as the fluid doesn't accumulate again, then I should be good. The doctor changed my bp med and put me on a very small amount of a diuretic. I've had to half the dose of the diuretic because the combo of it with the bp med drops my heart rate and that makes me dizzy. So the half dose of each seems to do the trick.
They have me on lisinopril as a diuretic. The diovan was so strong it caused muscle spasms. As long as I have 8 hrs with my ankles at heart level it controls the swelling- but I have to keep my fluid intakes high as well to avoid the swelling. Marty- steadycam wrote a really good article on salt and how it affects our bodies. It explains why to control saltto minimize swelling. Grats on the achievement!
Steph I'm so happy for you!! And yes careful w those meds.. I've seen people pass out from not being used to new rx. Glad you don't have any gardening "restrictions" either :))
I'll have to check that article out Kitt. If I find it I'll post the link here.
My bad, too many distractions. Public apology tendered ladies!

Beautiful. Cant see where I am tonite, but love moonrises...
Kitt if you get a chance to peep it tonight, it is breathtaking! 😳🌕
:( tried. Tulsa is too deep in equipment and lights. I have your pic!
Glad to hear your news, Stephanie.
Sorry about yours, Kitt. And btw, is there a reason for the link to rosemary? I have a HUGE rosemary plant (don't know whether to call it a bush or a shrub) so if anyone needs a supply of fresh cut rosemary, I'm the one to call. Wonder if it holds up in the mail?
Becky Jr - your pics of the moon are great. Like Tulsa, only more so I would think, too many lights and tall buildings, etc. Then add in cloud cover and it's almost like there isn't a moon at all.
Last night on tv weather there were pics of the 'super moon' and said that it is blocking the view of the Perseid meteor showers. They went on to say that we could prob. see the meteor showers tonight from I don't remember when to when. Guess I'd have to find a really tall bldg open to the public at night to have a look see. For now I just have memories from when I lived in CO. But for those of you in places like Lipan that are not quite as populated as Dallas, if you've never seen the meteor showers, I recommend that you check your local time and step outside and watch. They're quite spectacular. Can often see 100 or so meteors in an hour.
Well poo, wrong link is all. I will try again. It is SUPPOSED to be Carries article on Salt...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/4508/ ok. gotta reread the rosemary one tho.
I have 3 diff rosemary plants. Prostate, Tuscan Blue, and Spice Island, as well as a volunteer I rooted from a sprig in Okla that had been shaped like a Christmas tree. I need more places to grow them...
Flowerchild, the meteor showers here are amazing. We always watch the perseids, will be tonight (sometime after midnight) and the L--- what the heck is the name of the other major shower?? I'll google later.. Lol
Anyway were so far out from DFW that you can see the different bluish green colors in their tails.
I was blessed in getting to raise a Variegated Fritillary once after seeing it’s cat on a Pansy one spring. I caged and fed it flowers until it formed a chrysalis, and it is gorgeous! But Ivy they don’t have to dry, because their wings aren’t wet. They are limp and have to hang to harden straight. Be careful and don’t move them in this stage because if the wing is crimped in a fall, it hardens that way.
That is a gorgeous chrysalis Sheila.
Wow yes what a great fashion sense that cat has! ;))
Shelia I'd like to learn to raise butterflies the way you do. I have a lot of mw seeds starting now, so maybe next year I can pick your brain and learn to be a great butterfly mommy!
kittriana, what does that Tuscan Blue look like? I've seen it in some catalogs and they always just seem to show a close up of the branch. I would like to know what the general shape and density of the entire plant looks like. Not that it entirely matters--I'm a fool for rosemary. But it would help to know what it generally would look like so I can imagine it with some plants I already have. ☺
Every rosemary has a form, I found a site that described them oncethe ONLY pic I am carryin is the one with a salvia- still only its 2nd yr. The form is one stem base with upward reaching branches- and mine thinks the salvia is hogging the sun. Spice Island has branches out from a main stem and I hear is used more often in the topiary forms. TBlue has succulent looking leaf ez to work with.
Why thank you for the response, kittriana. That is one of the reasons I like rosemary....it have various forms. So I can have a rosemary for any number for beds. ☺
Sorry- I have been where phones dont work and DG refuses to load. Dont feel ignored..
I also have Tuscan Blue, I just love it, and IT oves Texas !
Ours started out as a little, puny two-inch tall plant. My son half-heartedly
planted on a little two inch mound of black clay, and within 2 years it became
as tall as me, five feet tall, and five feet wide (diameter)..Beautiful ! Stays
green and blooming even during snow and ice.
It blooms most during the short days of the year, so that there is something
for the bees & hummers during the winter.
It also blooms in the longer days, butnot in such great numbers.
It looked really full, but when it got cut back ((to my dismay), it still has one
main leader stem, and then lots of stems branching off of the main one.
Ours is planted at the entrance to our front porch, and each time someone
comes over, they brush against it and comment on how lovely it smells.
Cur branches, when brought into the house, make great air fresheners.
Or put branches into your barbecue fire for wonderfully-scented smoke :)
The blooms occur directly on the stems, not at the ends of stems.
BajaBlue, well I'm five feet tall, too. So considering everything you all have told me about Tuscan Blue rosemary, I must have some. I think Blue Moon Nursery (not too far from me) has some. And a three day shopping weekend to boot! Nothing could be finer ☺
I have one kind of Rosemary. The plant is almost 15 yrs old and has never bloomed! So if there is such a variety I have the never blooms rosemary. Lol
ha ha, Lisa, mebbe you are not punishing it or ignoring it enough...
Terri, I love plants that are taller than me ! :)
In that case Baja, you would love my 'tall" garden. I never think about how tall something is going to get before I plant it. Then by the time it does, I love the plant too much to cut it back.
We are getting a very nice thunder storm that has some good rain in it. Hope it will continue all night.
