Got 1.75 inches yesterday and very happy for it!
SHOOTIN THE BREEZE WITH DG BUDS
"Officially" we got 1", but at my house, we got a bit more than that. I'll take all we can get!
Sprinkling here today, I wish it would rain for real!!
It was wet on the ground this morning and there are storms all around us now.
Well. I will wish Texas rain. Sat 2.5 days in Pa and it drizzled and stayed misty the whole time, now I am north to Chester NY and it is still drizzly. I guess they learn to mow in the rain here.
Under a tornado warning but the storm hasn't gotten here yet, hope it doesn't make it this far.
They lifted our tornado watch. The storms went just south of here. Thank goodness! As much as I want/need the rain, I can't bear to see my garden get hammered by hail.. I would cry.
Lisa be careful and get your shelter ready just in case!
We've been getting enough regular rain here I have barely had to water, and my IBC tote is full to the brim!

I'm not having to water much at all. Springs always use to be like this but the last few years have been different...Mosquitos like crazy.
Last night was rather exciting a tornado touched down a few miles from here where it is flatter. We got a ton of rain, lightening and thunder. But a brief inspection this morning didnt show any damage. We were lucky. Everything is growing like crazy with all this rain.
Happy to say we got another .5" of rain. My weeds are loving this! ☺
We started the spring with lots of mosquitos, who got killed back by the repeated late frosts and high winds. But there were still enough to be annoying. Then the house swallows and purple martins showed up. The swallows and martins did show up a bit late around here but they are in full force now. So barely a mosquito present in the open areas at this time. If I hike back into the jungly part of my third goat pasture I will be eaten alive. But if the swallows and martins can get to them, the mosquitos don't seem to stand a chance. It is so nice mowing and brush hogging with my orbiting, winged mowing companions! Now I need a pressure washer for the front porch where some of the swallows are nesting, LOL. They are so much fun to watch in the evening while sitting outside sipping a beverage of choice.
You all have a lovely weekend!
Terri
It sounds like you are having a really good time Terry. Not many mosquitos around here wither but lots of garden work.
I love gardening, but the heat is no fun. We are on stage 1 water restrictions, allowed ti water twice a week.
I hope things don't get worse, some towns are not allowed to water outside at all.
We sure need a lot of rain.
Mosquitoes are bad in Rowlett. I have to limit my time outside, because I don't like to put OFF all over my body to go out for a brief period. Rowlett is on Stage 2 watering -- can only water the lawn every-other Tuesday. Can hand water the flowerbeds on any day, but only between 6pm-10am. We are very close to going to Stage 3, I'm afraid. :-(
Carla
Beautiful!
Yes, that's a beautiful view you posted, Kitt. Makes me wanna do some traveling.
1lisac, I was watching the news and when you say it was 'rather exciting' around where you are, that's quite an understatement.
'Skeeters are awful around here. Last week I was calling it quits for the day and took off my gardening gloves while walking up to my back door. In less than a minute I got 5, count 'em, five, mosquito bites on one hand. And when it comes to mosquito bites, I'm such a baby! But have gotta get off the computer now b/c I'm sure some plants are thirsty and definitely know some weeds need pulling. Getting a late start as I had some emailing to do.
I keep basil in my pocket and smeared on my ankles- its helped some as a repellant. I understand about the traveling, can be very tiring on ones patience.... :) skeeters, shudder, they adore me so well.
Whaa? Basil as a skeeter repellent?? I'm so trying that!
I have several varieties of basil growing- if i pinch some back I use that- my daughter wants flowers so i usually dont get em pinched fast enough to bush out, but I try...cant say which one works best either...
Anybody heard from BajaBlue lately? My DMail to her does not get answered.
Summer started, shes prob busy...
The last time she posted was the seventh of this month, I hope she is o.k.
I got a DMail from Becky Sr on June 11. Hopefully she's just busy. If I remember, I'll give her a call later.
Hey Guys, one inch of rain here in Arlington today, kept me from working outside, but boy, what a Joy!!
We picked up 1.25" here in my neck of the woods. It's clearing now and the sun is shining, but I'll take any rain that fills the water barrels.
OK, I'm back. Had some pressing things to do
so couldn't spoil myself with more fun things !
We had wonderful "chipi-chipi" (Aztec word for soft,
steady, lovely penetrating rain) all day yesterday !
So wonderful... and its doing it again right now,
Prayer works ! I heard we are in approximately a 40"
deficit. I believe eventually we WILL get back into the
black !
Almost drove off the road Friday going home when a bolt of lightning struck in the ditch just as I was passing. The dogs were barking like made (I bring my two Corgis to work with me) for the rest of the way home. It seems they thought I was responsible for the giant flash of light, thunderous clamp of thunder, and chunks of dirts, etc. flying through the air. Definitely woke me up, that's for sure! LOL!
Cloud bursts on and off all weekend, but got quite a bit done and am happy with the free water for my garden.
Am starting some tomato seeds for the fall garden. Just need to decided which of my tomato seed stash with get the call up. Also, planting out more pumpkin seeds for fall.
Glad to see you back in Dave-action BajaBlue!
Terri
Baja Becky, good to see you back and I hope things are well for you and your family.
Terri, glad you're safe and that you didn't drive off the road! How scary!
Has anyone heard from Becky (StillPlaysWDirt)? She's out in Lipan and they picked up a lot of rain yesterday.
We got another 1/2" of rain today. Yay!! Now it's cleared and just hot and humid out there.
Yeah I am with the dogs on that one- not my favorite blindness. News said a fellow in Ga was hit by an unexpected bolt and it knocked his work boots off his feet and literally smoked the boots- but he was ok. Welcome back Baja! Gullywashers still dropping buckets in spots here south of Atlanta and its ALWAYS humid here, sigh. Oh looky, here comes another possible...
Thanks, all !
I have been working on setting up an allium
co-op, & having fear of failure phobia.
But its almost ready to appear, probably
tomorrow, I hope !
I have been price-comparing since April.
Kitt and everyone, please stay safe.
I am hoping we aren't one yet. The sky
looks promising !
Allium co-op. Thats awesome of itself just imagining it coming together. Forgive me if I imagine rice silos, and corn silos.... Alliums are a whole nother basket! Good luck but it'll be a solid go.You will see.
Hoping so, thanks for your support !
I am really looking forward to it.
Holy moly Terri, glad you're okay! Never seen a lightning strike up close and personal, and I hope to keep it that way!
Hey Steph, I'm here! Had company for over a week and all I have to say is wow! I am a great houseguest compared to some.. I haven't had the time or energy to log on here or play in the garden but did get to harvest some tomatoes (finally!). We got 1.5" of rain on Sunday, isn't that amazing! My rainbarrel runneth over lol
Is it too late for me to plant some A. tuberosa seeds that I got at the RU? Or would it be better to wait and sow them next spring?
I would winter sow them in the fall, maybe late October.
My sister and her husband were going to take 5 grandkids home that had been there for the weekend and they live out in the boonies "off the two lane blacktop and through the woods". Anyway he made it to the end of their lane only to find the blacktop was a virtual lake. So they had to keep the five kids another day!
They live in Brazos Point, it's been his only home, and he said it had never been this high.

WOW Sheila! I hope that water subsided for them. We picked up another inch this afternoon in that wicked storm. Blew my cucumbers over...again.
These rains have been a blessing in spite of the inconvenience, I hope the lakes got a big boost and we won't have to go into stage 2 restrictions.
Yes they got the kids home the next day. One funny picture he posted showed all the kids in a circle on a blanket. The caption was "snack time", he had poured a box of cereal out in the center. The two year old twins loved it the older ones not as excited. It looked like he was feeding the chickens!
I would imagine after they had been there for several days they were running out of food. LOL
I think this might have been discussed in the RU thread, but rather than hunt it down, I thought I'd ask it here. I met a neighbor who has a mass of white salvia greggii in her front yard. She said that I can come over anytime to get some. I've read 2 conflicting things on getting starts. So . . . I'll let my peeps here throw in their 2¢ worth. Where do I take a cutting from and then what to do to root it?
