Jasmine

I recently bought an indoor jasmine plant. Since then the flowers and even some of the buds have been going brown. I've read you're supposed to take the dead flowers off, but how exactly do you do that? Do you just pull the flower off, leaving the green bit that looks like a tiny crown behind, or do you take a bit of the stem away too? Will new flowers grow there?

Why are some of the buds going brown? Is it normal to lose a huge amount of flowers in just a few days?

You're over-watering (based on the odds).

Jasmine is a common name.
Can you post a picture of the plant, some leaves, a close up of the flowers and lets see if we can ID it.

Around here, many Jasmines are outdoor shrubs and vines, but I keep my Jasminum sambac under cover in the winter, and it is a thirsty plant!

Thank you for the replies. I don't think I'm overwatering. I always check the soil and wait for it to feel dry before watering. Maybe I'm letting it get too dry?

I haven't had a chance to transfer any photos yet but I think it's a star jasmine. I keep it indoors all year.

There is new leaf and vine growth that looks healthy, but some of the buds are still going brown, although it is looking much better than before.

I'd really like to know how to deadhead and prune it. At first I just took the dead flowers off but it left loads of stems and looked awful. I've been cutting the stems now, until just above a sort of cross section area, which lots of stems and tiny leaves come out of. Is this a correct thing to do?

If I don't cut it but just take off the dead flower, would a new flower grow where the old flower was?

Let's see a picture. Buds and flowers often abort if you over-water. If you haven't noticed any wilting between waterings (you're not under-watering), or if you DO notice wilting while the soil is still damp, you're over-watering. What are you using for soil? How deep is the pot and how deep in the pot are you cking moisture levels? Do you know exactly what the plant is?
