Hi, I am gardening in Andalucía, Southern Spain. I have a number of Pepino cucumbers , which are growing well, but some are turning from green to yellow in colour. Have I simply left them too long, prior to picking, or is this an indication of a more serious problem??? Any advice / assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Pepinos going from green to yellow
I believe you have left them on too long. Why don't you try picking one and see if the taste has changed....usually when they get over ripe they taste bitter.
Hi 1lisac, you are correct. The taste is tending toward bitter , so it will now be a case of picking those that remain green and using them. Thanks very much for the feedback.
No problem, glad I could help. I know once they start producing they can produce like crazy. If you keep picking the ripe ones, they should continue to produce.
Allanby be sure to pick all the yellow ones off because to many yellow ones on the plant will signal it to stop producing new fruits because it is mature.
Hi eweed, Thanks for the advice, all yellow ones have now been removed.
