thought all the peonie would be open for the RU - not sure - they are getting close.
Spring blooms May 2014
Since they count peony bloom dates according to when red charm blooms and mine had to be dug up for a new tree, there is no peony bloom timepiece here. Most of my herbacious peonies are still forming buds as well. TPs and ITOHs tend to be first, then Saunders and other hybrids with species genes. The full-blooded lactifloras are yet to bloom.
Love the weigelea near Ruby Falls. AND all the others, too.
No peonies have opened yet for me, although Kansas is showing some color....I also have a few roses just showing some color, & one climber, John Davis, has a bloom....my art teacher is giving a rose workshop on Tues., so I hope I have something in bloom! Your rose is a beauty, Jen......
Wha -- what is an RU....will try to find threads about it....where are you?
PFG -- daylily -- wow! I am totally jealous! I've got a few stalks coming up.....but just barely! and a peony bud...yahoo!
FlowAjen - beautiful beautiful blooms.....such wonderful color! Love the shape of the Trollius flower....I don't have any of those!
I found my missouri evening primrose blooming today.....
RU is a Round Up, and there's one at who's house tomorrow. People are bringing plants to swap and food to share, and a good time will be had by all. Sadly, I can't go :-(. But judging from past and current posts, everyone who does will have a great time!

Thanks PFG! I really had no idea ! I wish I could go!
Your Grandma's iris really gleam out, especially when the sun hits them. This year they are really spectacular! Unfortunately, the shrub next to them has grown too, so I think I have to move them or next year they'll be swamped. Is there any way to do it so as not to sacrifice next year's blooms?
Have a great time at wha's tomorrow! Can't wait to hear all about it!
First peony in front of the dining room has opened. Historic pink 'Sarah Bernhardt'. We are glad to enjoy them before the next rain which will bend the stems over the plant support.
Pam, you should be able to move the iris without losing too many blooms....it will take a few years to get a huge bloom, but you'll have some next spring......I put the Coral Charm in 2 years ago.....last year, it just grew into a good-sized bush....this year, a few blooms! Here are Top Brass, Coral Charm, & Krinkled White....the last 2 photos are from Bill's, whose place is another world....truly!
Stunning blooms....and Bill's place looks amazing...I hope to get to the RU next year!
My peony buds are still small.....but at least I've got some. I have a tree peony - anyone have one of those? I like it alot -very sturdy and never flops over....it only has one or two blooms each year so I must need to do something to it....been like that for 10 years now...but it comes back every year.... I was thinking about trying to get some different types of colors of peonies....but am not even sure they can be split to be traded - can they?
pic 1 -- the deer ate all the leaves off the rhodie
pic 2 - red at night iris
pic 3 - this yellow poppy has an orange bloom....weird!
pic 4 - NOID iris....lovely but no name!
Hi Alikat. Peonies can be traded but you have to be patient. TPs act much more like any shrub and sometimes they are grafted onto herbacious ones, so root divisions are less likely. Herbacious are usually dug during the dormant season, normally to get some root with at least 3 eyes.
OOOHHHH, red at night is stunning!!!!!
Iris are pretty. Ali.....
Elfie - good to know so probably better to just buy a new one than try to trade....sounds tricky! I will need to research tree peonies and some colors they come in! Also need to figure out what they like and try to get my one TP to have more blooms!
Anyone have daylilies that have leaves streaking and turning yellow....??? Forgot to take pic and will do tomorrow - plant looks big but leaves are weird this year! Problems?
No problems with daylily foliage in MA at the moment.
I had that daylily problem last year
here's info I found http://hyg.ipm.illinois.edu/pastpest/200711c.html

thanks for the link Jen....it's not that....I've never seen anything like it.....and it's pouring here so I didn't take my phone out to snap a pic yet....
those rose campions are cool....must have been windy! I've almost got a daylily blooming...maybe tomorrow when the sun comes out??
Gorgeous!
beautiful....and l love the rock balance images...amazing that you can do that! Your gardens are fantastic and I hope to get to the RU next year!
lovely peonies everyone
Thanks. I was pleased to see some because contrary to conventional peony care wisdom, they have been moved several times, and they will be moved again if we ever get our stone wall built (we will have to hired it done). Also, a concern, organic fertilizers are supposed to be inactive in very cold weather.
There is a white peony area that gets better every year and the plants mature into the space a lot more because of work on soil and sun exposure, but as I look at it, lots more work is still needed all around, The so-called fragrant ones seem to have lost their scent. Next year will be better as we trim a few of the neighbor's still-encroaching Norway maples, with their permission.
Bill, I like the sandstone rocks in the new balance... all the peonies are wonderful, Bill & Rosemary....I really like Raspberry Twist & Bill's yellow.....
