The Schefflera root system

Zolfo Springs, FL(Zone 9a)

I have a Schefflera plant that is about 8 ft high and 5 ft. wide. I was told the root system is extensive!! I have pvc water pipes under the plant. Will the roots do damage to the pipes? I really hate to have to dig it up!!!!!

To say a plant has extensive roots normally means wide spread, as in they spread across the soil rather than deep into it, Like tree's, there are some trees / shrubs that set there roots way deep down into the soil searching for water / moisture and stability depending on the spread of the top of the trees diameter, that's the canopy.
Other tree's and shrubs have spreading root systems, that is, they DONT go far down but spread out extensively in search of moisture, the spread helps give stability in wind as the top / canopy sways in the wind.

best to find what type of root system this shrub has as it would be difficult though not impossible to move out of that area.
If your talking about the plant with the yellow markings on the leaf then we can only grow those as house plants here in UK, I think we call them umbrella plants, LOL.

Hope someone else can help you with this individual plant and it can be saved.
Kindest Regards.
WeeNel.
