Repotted swiss cheese plant very droopy and sick looking!

exeter, United Kingdom

I repotted two swiss cheese plants into one large pot a few weeks ago. Since then the plant has been very droopy and some of the lower leves have started to turn yellow and die. Before it was repotted it had begun to grown some new leaves. Now these leaves have turned brown and statred to die.

When i took then two existing pants out of the pot i discovered it was in fact about seven seperate plants bound withs a mass of intertwined roots. My dad helped me repot the plant and I fear he was a little rough with seperating the roots of the plants. To help the plants stand up we also potted them much deeper in the soil than they had been previously.

Both theses plants had been repotted previously and fared fine. I'm sure the problem is something I have done. But I don't want to interfear with it and risk upsetting it any more until I have an idea of what might help! I have attached a picture.

Many thanks for you help.

"Too wet" isn't usually an issue with these plants, but that's what the symptoms sound like. I'm guessing the problem is that you planted them so deeply. Put a stake in the middle of the pot that you can tie them to for support, instead. Lift the plants to whatever level they were previously growing... taking them out and replanting them might be the easiest way to do that.

Since these plants put out aerial roots, many people make special supports for them... basically a pole surrounded by sphagnum moss held in place with chicken wire... the roots go into the poles and support the plants. You can buy the supports, but I know I've seen good directions for DIY... I have a vague recollection of a tutorial where the center of the support was PVC pipe with small holes down its length and blocked at the bottom, such that it could be filled with water that would dribble out to moisten the sphagnum.
