I have 2 3ft potted gardenias, I have buds some of which do not open but not too many leaves. Here is a picture they are in a southern exposed window, the pots sit on stones high enough so as not to sit in the water, they have mulch on the top of their pots. What am I doing wrong? Plenty large buds but they won't open and I have no leaves. HELP,
Gardenia help
What kind of fertilizer are you using?
To me, some of the leaves look like a fertilizer deficiency, but it could just be the way the pictures showed up.
Are some of the leaves paler or yellow-green with deeper green veins?
Gardenias need sun. Are you keeping those blinds down most of the time? Blinds like that block ALL the light a plant needs. That could be most of the issue.
My standard advice for gardenias is water daily, acid fertilizer once a week, or at least every two weeks, and a top dressing with leaf mold or compost twice a year.
If you get the hang of them, everyone will call you a greenthumb...
I just put the blinds down because the plants are right at the glass, but no I leave them up. I have just started giving the trees some warter with magnesium, I have miracid but didn't want to try so many things, but i will give them some and see what happens. I looked at them today and right below the buds the stems are turning an orangish yellow then the buds drop off. Thanks for the replies, please keep them comming as i am ready to give up.
