Oh there are plenty of failures...but they do teach us a lesson or two.
April blooms
once three guys were in the finals to win a million dollars. The interviewer asked each of them what they would do with a million dollars if they should win. One fellow said he would invest it all in mutual funds and retire. The second guy said he would he would buy each of his children their own home. The third man was a farmer and he said he would farm as long as it lasted.
I'm pretty optimistic most of the time, but my "failures" do usually sting at first, then I am happy for the newly acquired planting space, and vow not to make the same mistake again. I usually walk away with a lesson to be learned, so it's not all bad. Like this week, I learned not to put my (fresh from Home Depot) pineapple sage in full sun. It was a beautiful plant in the morning, by mid day it was no more than a stick with some shriveled leaves. Then I read on DG yesterday that lots of the plants from the big box stores haven't been hardened off yet, well duh! That explains it!
I am the queen of failures in my gardening. I have killed so many things it is scary. But thanks to DG and the school of hard knocks, I have more and more success. Which leads me to my picture of the front bed. While I was gone over the weekend to Ohio this bed has exploded. It really doesn't photograph well.
I still look at it and cannot believe that I actually have done this. Many of my plants that are growing are from our RUs which makes it special.
Very nice.
What are the taller flowers (white and purple)?
Those are my larkspur. I have them in pink, lavender, blue, white, and purple.
Very nice. Do you throw your larkspur seeds and they germinate by themselves?
year after year?
I did and they do. I can save you some seed for the fall RU if you like.
Sittin in Houston tonite an tomorro an HOME. Those are awesome, but I am bringing you some sprouts once I get there Joy, will let ya know once I shake off the road. How was Ohio- they are slow to bloom up that way...
rouxcrew
thanks for the offer, but I will be in San Francisco for two weeks at the time of the RU.
I will try some next year.
They are so late up there- don't be jealous they may not have summer at all, we do have more heat than they do though. I was in St Louis coming south before there were leaves on the trees.
The larkspurs are so pretty! I think I might need to toss some seeds out this fall so I'll have some pretty blooms in the spring.
Thanks, I am more than happy to share in the fall. Just let me know.
Joy
