April blooms

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

They are perennial and evergreen, I have had mine for 15 years, I suppose they can live a very long time.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I have another set of irises blooming today. The first three photos are of this clump. The last one is from a different clump. I do not know if they are the same or not. Gypsi gave me peach irises and so did Patrob. Do you think these are different or the same?

My daughter sent me a picture of one bloom this spring so far. We have had very little to no water too, while rain falls all around us. I know this plant froze, its sister died, but here it is with blooms. Stock. The tree was destined to fall, but assistance did not divert disaster. Owch.

Here is my Texas Betony which I got at last year's NPSOT sale with 2 sets of leaves. It is growing and looking pretty. Cant wait until I have a large clump. Next is my farinaceae which I got at the same time. I had some long ago and the red spider killed it. I have two clumps now and they look healthy but it's not very hot yet either.

I have this other plant and the pot is obviously getting crowded but I cant figure out how to divide the clump!

That does look gorgeous!!!

Peggy really is stunning, Linda.

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Stunning!

And I'll take a piece from the clump when you divide. :-)

Love the spotted pot plant Marty! Mine "grows" in boxes and gets very particular if you disturb her "roots".
My front gate yesterday. I took several of the whole bushes to show the masses of blooms, but they didn't show the intensity of the color. Or the smell!
My bunny grass is doing well, it will disappear soon. The wine ups and gaillardia (sp) are coming on strong, and last but not least, a close up of my gate rose. It is intoxicating when you open the front gate.

Wow really pretty Joy :)

I went a little paparazzi on the wildflowers myself yesterday.. winecup, penstemon (cobaea?), NOID iris, first pink knockout bloom this season, and old plainsman.

All the flowers are beautiful....my poppies (corn poppies) are finally starting to bloom, the Icelandic were a no show then I found the seed packet setting on the desk by the front door. LOL..maybe next year. Still no Tall Poppy Mallow and I know I sowed those.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Lisa, I totally forgot to sow my poppies too! And I missed the mark on my asparagus and mex mint marigold too! Ai ai ai! Do you know when is the next window to direct sow the poppies? I have. A few different varieties to sow, and I'm thinking about putting them in along the broadside of a shed, with hollyhocks behind them since they get real tall. Wonder if that'll work?

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Hollyhocks would be beautiful behind poppies, I sow my poppy seeds in the fall-winter. I think the Hollyhock seeds go out about the same time, but I'll have to check.

Oh I never did sow the Tall Poppy Mallow...they are sitting on the desk too. Don't know what I was thinking...I did toss some seed blends that have that seed in it but so far I haven't seen them.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

LOL Lisa! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who spaced out on sowing some seeds!

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Every year I forget to plant spring seeds. Usually my flowering peas. We have such a narrow window and years like this one make it hard to decide when is good. I was over a month late in planting my potatoes and really lucked out that we have had winter hanging on.
I am so glad I finally got some poppies in the ground, now I don't have to worry about planting them any more.

This is one of the mystery amaryllis that Fruit of the Vine sent me because they wouldn't bloom for her. I am thrilled that not only is it blooming and gorgeous, it already has a pup.

I put the seeds on the desk, by the front door, so I would remember to toss them, but I never got around to those. Lol I did toss other seeds tho. I toss them anytime between Oct and Feb. I've never had a problem with them sprouting but I guess I have to sow them before they can sprout. Lol

Dallas, TX

Roux - That is one good-looking amaryllis! Don't think I've ever seen one that color.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Very pretty, Joy! I like your taste in plants :)

Lisa, yes I completely understand. I have a dresser in my laundry room where I keep my garden notebook and current seed candidates. I usually overlook a packet or two each sowing. This year I just didn't have the space to start anymore inside, my shelves were full! And then it took so long for winter to break, I missed my opportunity. I should be penciling sowing dates into a calendar for next year.. it would save me a headache!

And I am totally doing the hollyhock & poppy thing, I just dug through my seed stash today and have a TON of diff. hollyhock packets and some breadseed poppies :D Before I sow them, do I need to dig up the ground? It's just plain old dirt there..

Arlington, TX

Things are starting to look lush again.

SPWD-I would sow the Hollyhock seeds to the depth the packets says. Poppy seeds are so small they need to be surface sown. Usually I just toss them or mix the seeds with a little potting soil and then toss them.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Cheryl, your ice plants are outstanding! They came back from winter that well?

Arlington, TX

cooperi or its cultivars are extremely hardy and yes they came back fine

Arlington, TX

Related to but in a different genus than amaryllis but still pretty.

Some Sarracenia growing and blooming. They are very far behind in growth from our prolonged cold weather.

Cheryl, I just love all the different plants you grow! I kill cacti and have the hardest time growing them!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Cheryl, you are the queen of unusual blooms.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Wow they are gorgeous! My 13 y/o wants me to get all these carnivorous plants but we don't really have the proper environment for them here. You are lucky AND talented :)

Arlington, TX

I love carnivorous plants but I only have success with those native to the US. My tropical species are pitiful.

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Half of my everything is pitiful! LOL! Sure am glad gardening seems to be measured by successes rather than failures!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

There's no such thing as garden failures. It's all just learning.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

Stephanie I agree
