Thanks! I'm back home tonight, will probably go up again at the end of the week, when we hope Dad will be released from the hospital. Jim & Joyanna did a great job of holding down the fort, although I think she had 2 servings of fruit, no veggies, in 4 days. oops
Your Neck of the Woods part 8, Hay, I herd it was spring!
Glad for dad. Stormy here, but beautiful. Hate trying to write on a Kindle.

Jill, sounds like good news on your dad.
At least Joyanna got some fruit LOL. A much repeated family story is about my dad watching my nephew Ryan when he was little while my sister and her husband were at work. Julie has always been very particular about eating and feeding her children healthy. She always left instructions and menu plans/food with my dad. Well, one time when the whole family was together, my mom brought out the Hartley's potato chips that you can only get up in PA. They were a special treat when we were growing up and visiting the grandparents. Three year old Ryan piped up "Yummmm, potato chips, my favorite lunch"... BUSTED.
Haha...potato chips are still my favorite part of lunch!
luv potato chips, practically addicted to kettle chips... Gave my niece chocolate cake for breakfast at the beach once. Well for heaven's sake, is that so different from pancakes, nutritionally?
Nice mild air this morning. Don't worry the sun will come out at 11 AM I know this, because that is when I have to get ready for work.
Yeah Grandma Utz Kettle cooked BBQ chips are the best! I eat them every day, probably not healthy but they're gluten free and I love them.
at least they're Something free, that's gotta mean something haha. I grew up eating regular Utz about every single day of childhood.
Lol....before I had to go gluten free, my go to chips were Doritos....mmmmm....so tasty!
That's so funny! Reminds me of my father-in-law. When we were visiting family in China with our
3 yo son my father took him downstairs in his night gown to the restraunt one morning. When I came around the corner there was my son holding out his cup while my father-in-law poured coffee into it. Yum Yum down it went. Several years later we were talking about the trip and my husband was talking about him feeding Yudi coffee. Gung Gung denied ever having seen him with coffee. Out came the scrap book and BUSTED! Poor Gung Gung never lived that one down. That story has been told around the table almost as many times as the one when the bomb dropped on my mother's house in WWII. Those stories are what makes a family a family and ties one generation to another and should be cherished.

Did you know that "donner" (Sally) is also from China?
You may want to D-mail her --you'll have a lot to chat about.
gita
Yes, those family stories are the glue!! Love them
Hey everyone, did you see Becky's post?

We're going to brave the possible crowds and head down to DC for the cherries. We'll leave here around 3:30 or 4 and hope that many people are on their way out by then. We just want to see the trees, walk a bit, take some nice pictures.
Sounds lovely Sally. Take some photos for us OK?
Just checking in. Time flies when you're having fun. We have only 5 more days. I'm hoping things are much greener when we get home. There are many flowers to take pictures of here. We will share when we get home. Miss y'all.
I'm sure its been lovely down there! You'll have lots of new things to look at in the yard. My little hosta pips have grown just in one day, I guess all of us are finding things that have grown daily.
Karen--sooooo beautiful!!! I have only been there once--other than going in the
back way with my huge plant donations...not always appreciatively received.
There will NOT be any more of these donations....NONE desired--either....
Was this their "market day"? or--is that later? In May--I think...
You just took a trip to visit?
Thanks, Gita. Market day is Mother's day weekend. I will be back! With an entourage, it seems.
Yes it was just to visit. You know the place is free to visit, right? Open 8am to 8pm right now. Very nice place to practice photography, not very busy and not uppity about staying off the grass and stuff.
Gorgeous, Typ! Wow, that must be what Wordsworth was talking about when he described a 'host of golden daffodils'! The one with your daughter leaning over to look at them is precious.
And what gorgeous cherries and magnolias! I keep thinking it would be so nice to have a magnolia tree... (sigh)
Catmint, there are smaller versions of magnolias. I have one called 'Ann', a small-flowered magnolia that's stayed quite compact for several years now. :-)
thanks, Critter--'Ann' looks lovely! And just the right size, too...
What a beautiful place to be on a gorgeous spring day! CatMint's right, that's a precious photo of your daughter. Is that budding photographer your son?
Thanks, guys. Yes, that's my son. He got a camera for Christmas (best gift ever!) and he commandeered my tripod. I think he has an eye for photography and I hope to foster a passion for it. It's so funny to see what pictures a 6YO takes! Thank goodness digital pictures are free!
Guess who is moving again? Twice in one year. My existing landlord sold the place. They are closing on the 24th. The new owners are giving me incentives to move early. I found a nice place nearby with a new landlord with several homes in the area who has no intention of selling. The new place has a fireplace and a narrow Florida room. Other than nicely shaped azaleas flanking the front door, the 1/2 acre yard is a blank slate. I am almost done potting up my plants, but still have packing to do. The owner said he would be thrilled if I "make it look nice." Hope that he thinks so after the arrival of the pot ghetto.
It is taking considerable willpower to resist the fabulous deals on plants in the stores. Everything seems more tempting when you are mustering your willpower.
I could have done without snow last night, but at least it is gone now. I am beyond tired of snow.
I have to get more boxes, tape and assorted moving junk. I'll try to resist the spring plants....
KAREN--DID AUTUMN TAKE ALL THOSE PICTURES???
I am not clear--but it sounded like he was the photographer....
If it was him--VERY impressive! Good eye....G.
Wow, garden quilts!! Glad the new landlord wants you to pretty up the place. Woohoo!!! Thankful you found a new place for your pot ghetto. Hehehehe
Gita, No, August did not take the pictures. That was me. :)
Wow GQ! Well, if it was me, I probably wouldn't have all my boxes unpacked yet. from the first move...
I hurt my shoulder moving last summer. I didn't get all of my plants in the ground or my things unpacked. Just as i started feeling better, the owner brought people thru the place. All winter I didn't know whether to unpack or pack. The place was on and off the market, offers were rejected, revised, etc. They lost the mortgage, got it together again.... and they still want to move in right away. Luckily, I found a place that I like and am set to move on the 26th. I am holding my breath dreading the next crisis, but looking forward to be done with the deception and uncertaintity.
I was looking forward to seeing how the areas that I planted looked this spring. I think I had some interesting plant combinations. It is alright, I will come up with something else.
I am surprised so many of my roses survived - even the ones in the pot ghetto during the polar vortex. I have lots of dieback, but most, including my favorites, survived. It is hard to believe that they are the same plants that were so gorgeous last spring.
I am still glad that I moved. I was happier and healthier here than I was in "the Sanity Gap" in spite of the sale saga. I think that I made a good choice with the new place. Time will tell.
My hat is off to you for the double moves. I hate moving!
Geez me too. When I was in college, I had to move twice a year; once into the dorms and then once out of the dorms. When I graduated, I moved 4 times in the 4.5 years up to moving into our house. We've been in our house for a little more than 4 years so it's been really nice.
How wonderful that you're going to a bigger and better place!
Gita, I hope you have a painless and quick recovery.
Sorry to hear this GQ. Hope you are able to settle in smoothly in your new place and stay a long time!
GQ, hope the move goes smoothly and you can enjoy your new gardens for a very long time! Sympathies on the hurt shoulder... I did that last fall and got nothing done inside or out for quite some time... still twinging if I try to lift or dig much. Blech. Hope yours is fully recovered for spring planting!
Gita, prayers for the surgeon's hands and for a quick recovery.
I was about recovered from the cold I caught a week ago (nothing too awful but enough to keep me away from my just-had-surgery dad), and we were all set to go up to Pittsburgh for Easter. Then I woke up with a cough, sore throat, and stuffed heat this morning! Aaaargh! Normally, it'd be business as usual and we'd just head up. But I can't chance giving Dad anything involving a cough while his sternum is still knitting itself back together. I was planning to cook up a storm in his kitchen this weekend, too! Bummed. I know they'll manage fine without us as they did last weekend, but still. :-(
On the flip side, what a lovely day we're having!!
Bummer Critter, that would have been a good time :( Stupid colds. Pump vitamins like a wild woman and drink a ton, maybe you'll get over it by Saturday.
I don't get sick, I just get cold sores. I'm not sure which is worse...
I hate getting my plans changed on me Jill, feel better.
its chilly but I'm loving the sunshine and birdsong!
The threads for the Spring Swap (general and haves/wants) are now "sticky" threads at the top of the Mid Atlantic forum. Critter, I also had Terry "unsticky" the winter seed swap thread while she was at it. Hopefully this was the last of the cold weather and spring is really here to stay :)
