Good morning all and thanks for the well wishes. I am finally starting to feel much better and hope to be released today, but they are evaluating it one day at a time.
A few weeks ago I had the flu, followed in quick succession by a secondary respiratory infection. For weeks I wasn't eating much and was inconsistent taking my diabetic meds. I didn't realize it, but I was setting myself up for a condition called Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). When I started nonstop vomiting last Monday, I thought I had caught yet another flu bug. It seemed to be a 24 hour thing, but then it happened again on Thursday. At that point, my husband took me to the emergency room and I was admitted to the hospital. The DKA is under control now but I also have pneumonia.
I've got the computer, and during the windows when I felt ok, I've been following the good weather yardening vicariously through your posts :)

Your Neck of the Woods part 8, Hay, I herd it was spring!
Sounds like it has been a really rough time for you, Terri. Hope you get home today, even though it will be just in time for more rain.
We got some of those seeds from Terri, too. Can't wait to see the flowers for real.
Yeah those flowers are gorgeous!
Cat---
I am glad things are better-----you need to take better care of yourself!!!
Don't want to see you like THIS cat! G.
Gorgeous cat G! I always thought if I had tons of spare money, I'd buy a big cat that was 'domesticated'. How cool would it be to walk around a puma or a leopard on a leash rather than a dog!!! They're out there, they just cost a ton of money.
Jeff--
I have a file in "My Pictures" Folder that is called "wallpaper'..
in there I collect pretty images that I want to use on my desktop.
Whatever i come across that strikes my fancy. Like this cat...
G.
I was sprung from the hospital late yesterday afternoon. It is good to be home :)
Free at last!
great news, Terri!
I'm off to Pittsburgh this afternoon. Dad is getting a new aortic valve tomorrow. Bad news was that he definitely needs one; good news (as he says) is that there's no more bad news! (all else is fine with his heart)
Check in when I can... ~~~
Praying, critter, for your dad. Love his outlook!! Safe travels
Woot, woot, aspen hill is home!!!!
Yay Terry/Terri/ Teri I can never remembr which way all you Terries prefer to be spelled. LOL and I never call you Aspen cuz that is your beloved pet's name....
I would love to have domesticated foxes.

They are cute Sally,
Teri, So glad you are back home and doing better.
Sally, I saw a program dealing with the domesticated foxes on NG, I think it was in Siberia. The animals they showed had lost all feral traits and exhibited the characteristics of domestic canines. They were very cute.
Glad you are back home and feeling better, Terry!
Critter, sorry to hear about your father.
One of the cutest wildlife sightings I ever saw were two baby foxes boxing and wrestling with each other. They had no idea I was there and I was treated to 20 minutes of uninhibited play. I saw a gorgeous red tailed fox about a month ago. I was sitting in the conservatory, and caught a flash of movement down by the pond - it really stood out against the bare trees and the snow. I watched it as it made its way along one of the old logging trails. I was expecting it to be straggly after this long winter, but the coat was full and glossy, just beautiful.
Terry/Terri/Teri - how many different ways can it be spelled LOL. SSG and I both spell it with two Rs and an I (Terri) and Roses R Red spells it with one R and an I (Teri). I answer to any and all spellings though :) Isn't it funny that our Mid-Atlantic group has 3 Terri's, 2 Sally's, 2 Judy's, 2 Robin's, 2 Susan's - kind of beats the normal duplication odds. Hey Speedie, how about that for a math problem to work out - can you get extra credit?
It does seem to defy the odds! And now I can remember the Ter(r)is- thanks!
Heya! I didn't leave in time to miss the rain yesterday (not sure if there was a not-rainy time LOL), but I got up to my folks' just fine last night. We had to leave at the unholy hour of 4:30 am to get to the hospital by 5, but everything is going along well. The anesthesiology resident turned out to be from Wisconsin, degree at U. Wis., so Dad (who came in wearing a Bucky Badger shirt) took that as a good sign!
Mom is napping, and I might try to follow suit. I think my brother is just going to power through with the aid of lots of little cups of coffee LOL.
Jim was planning to mostly be off today (he put in long hours earlier this week with major meetings downtown Tues/Wed/Thurs)... he and Joyanna are having a Daddy & Me weekend. I hope they don't spend the whole weekend playing games on the computer, but you never know. :-)
We'll all be thinking of you today , Jill!
Ugh, nothing like early morning surgical appointment, right? I hope all goes well with your father.
I can't remember where the moss discussion was, but there's a nytimes article about moss. Pretty pictures!

Happy to hear that your feeling better after that awful bout that sent you to the hospital, Terri. It's really so great that you can relax and enjoy the beautiful natural setting that you have there. I'm sure that it will speed up your recovery.
Hope all goes well Critter. I was always told by our surgeon friends to schedule early in the morning while the operating surgeon is fresh and not dead on his feet after working the whole day.
We are in Fort Myers Beach now, headed for Key West and Sunset Key Resort. Gotta get rested up before the spring onslaught in the gardens!!
We did build a new rose garden bed for my cousins here in Florida. They are surrounded with homes that simple have a few palm trees and rocks instead of any natural ground covers. Our cousins have made their property into a wonderful tree, bush and plant shaded grounds where the temperature seems 15 degrees cooler than the surrounding properties.
Temps under shade trees generally are 10 or more degrees cooler... it's not just the shade, it's the A/C effect of all those green leaves doing their transpiration thing.
Key West!! Wonderful! Definitely a place I'd like to visit, not only for the snorkeling etc. but also for its fabled quirky laid-back ambiance. I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures there!
Good point about the OR staff & surgeon being bright eyed & bushy tailed -- and they were. We on the other hand -- not so much. LOL
Tell me I'm not sneaky read that as smart. I've been lusting after a solar birdbath/fountain. Of course husband dear says its a waste of money. Well.....oldest son is home from yeshivah and I put him to work planting PoPo's garden and just happen to mention to Po Po that a solar birdbath/fountain would be just the thing. She of course agrees with me and when I throw in how nice a few would look scattered around the yard she jumps right in. Poor hubby when he comes in from a nice golf day ..... OK I got my solar bird baths. G-d I do love being a woman!!
Yehudith
Praying for a good recovery for your dad, critter
Have a great trip, RRR.
Hehehehe, yehudith!!!
Good luck today to add, Jill. Arrived safely and we are enjoying the sun and sea. Life is good.
Woohoo!!!! Sun and sand and sea!!!!
ahh Holly, and Ric, I can almost feel the warm sand between my toes....
LOL you guys now you have me dreaming of beaches as well!
Ocean dreams... lovely!
We're all doing fine. Dad was moved out of ICU yesterday, and he's recovering well. I've been staying with Mom, and we've been spending the afternoon & evening at the hospital; my brother has the morning visitor shift, and he's been hanging out into the afternoon also, so we all get some nice visiting time together. Jim & Joyanna are holding down the fort at home. We're a very happy family!
Yehudith, yes you are fox-like in your cleverness with that maneuver. Poor hubby never knew what hit him... Po Po is his mother and your MIL, right? She's going to be so thrilled with that garden patio. :-)
Yep she's his mother and he's the oldest son... Oh yeah I hit it good!
Yehudith
Jill, great news on your dad. Glad all is going well.
Critter, I'm glad your dad is on the mend.
