i am pretty sure that this is phlox but need confirmation. I think I have been pulling this poor thing up as a weed amongst the verbena. Last summer I decided to let it grow and see what it was and it blossomed with a lovely little bloom.. This spring it is coming up and spreading. I think I may have planted phlox there a few years ago...but the verbena was very dense and I was busy pulling up anything that wasn't verbena! lol Garden and learn, I say!
