I am trying to grow vegetables from seed for the first time. I have some in growing in Jiffy pellets and others in a Parks Bio-dome. I'm excited to even get any seeds to grow.
I now have tomatoes with their true leaves on them. My question regards hardening off the plants. I plan to take the pellet and put in 4 inch Jiffy pots and then begin the hardening process. Is this the right way to do it or should the plants be hardened before planting in the 4 inch pots.
Thanks for the help.

First time growing seeds - how to transplant/harden
I would plant the pellets in the 4" pots first THEN harden them off. Tomatoes are a true vine so plant them deep and roots will grow along the stem that is buried. When you plant them in your garden plant them deeper, again, to ensure a good root system.
I would let them adjust to their new pots and then you can start the hardening off process. What are the temps in your area? Tomatoes are not frost hardy and if the air or soil is too cold they will just sit there.
Hi, thank you for the replies. I'm in Zone 7a - North Alabama.
Even within the zones there is a lot of variation (microclimates). Many people suggest to wait for the 2nd set of true leaves to transplant into larger pots....also when handling the plants don't mess with the stem, if that breaks the plant will die. What are the temps now?
