My neighbor has a florida red maple. Prob about 12 yr old tree with an 8" diameter trunk and about 18 ft tall. The tree is in good health but all of the branches grow arching upwards. The bottom set of branches are about 3 1/2 ft from the ground. The main trunk Y's (splits) about 6 ft up. He wants to cut all the branches off under the Y. He thinks that will force the remainder of the branches to grow outwards instead of arching up. I told him not to do it and leave it alone. We live in MacClenny, Florida which is north right under Georgia. Any advice would be great!
