This is my first year attempting a vegetable garden and I couldn't be more excited! While my raised beds are being built I started some tomato, jalapeno, sweet pepper and onion seedlings indoors. As well as some cabbage and lettuce that I just planted two weeks ago. My tomato seedlings have began to grow their true leaves and I have 2 plants to a cell. I believe I need to transplant these at this point but am looking for any good advice or tips! I am nervous to do anything incorrectly, but I know it's all a learning process. I used miracle gro seed starter mix and am unsure if I need to fertilize when I transplant. My peppers are getting taller but have now sprouted their true leaves. I also have 2 pepper plants to a cell. Should I transplant these into individual cells or containers? Also, how often do I need to water my seedlings? I have been making sure the soil stays moist, but it is not soggy. I give them a little water every morning to keep them that way. Is this too much? Any advice for a beginner is welcomed and thank you in advance!
Beginner! Transplanting Tomato & Pepper Seedlings?
You can transplant all your seedlings into the next bigger pot, except for the onion. I would let it grow a bit more. Transplant the onion in the ground as soon as it gets a tiny blub. After your transplants are about 6 inches tall, transplant into the garden, & then fertilize, once a week.
Hi Raee!
Please go into your preferences and list your growing Zone. More growers in your area will be able to advise you, once we have a better idea of where you're growing.
Hugs!
Linda
When transplanting your seedlings don't pick them up by their stem. Once that is damaged the plant will die. Handle them carefully by holding the leaves or the root ball.
