Whats wrong with my plant. Please help
anthurium
These plants don't like their roots in large amounts of soil, you have it in too large a pot for the size of the plant and the soil looks too wet.
If I were you, I'd remove the plant. check that there is actual roots formed, then re-pot into a SMALL pot, leave it alone till you see new growth appear, the brown on the leaf is over watering and MAYBE too much sun, they thrive in slight shade with NO direct sunshine on the plant, they also like to be in containers till they are looking like the pot will burst with too many roots, so you only re-pot into a new pot maybe 2 sizes larger when required.
Don't cut off the brown and only leaf just yet as that single leaf is the only living part required to keep the plant alive till new growth is made.
Hope this helps you out a bit.
Best Regards. WeeNel.
Do I let the soil dry out then water.
More or less allow the soil to dry out, my best guide for watering ALL plants is to find out what watering regime they require, IF they don't like to be in very wet soil longer than normal watering (watered then allowed to let water sit in saucer for say 30-60 minutes) then that is how you do it, For all plants, stick your finger into the soil in the pot, IF it's still damp, no water required, IF very dry, give water, for the type of plant your talking about, AT watering time I would always take the plant to sink, put enough water into the kitchen sink, sit the plant / plants into this water up to half way up pot, Leave for an hour as by then the soil / compost will have turned a darker colour due to the water intake, this is also a good time to wipe any dust off leaves, (Dust on leaves blocks the pores and prevents the plant breathing) Your type of plant would get a misting at this time too, this also helps remove dust, also have a good look at your plants while in the sink or on table in tray, this alerts you to any care required like removal of dead / dying flowers, Cut flower stem down to soil or just above, in the growing season, this is the time to offer the plants a liqid feed, to begin with I use a HALF strength dose, then after a couple of that dose, up it to full strength every few weeks till early Autumn when the plants almost every type of plant needs it's winter rest, they don't ALL die down but they do stop flowering or putting on new growth.
It takes time to get to know your plants need as most different types require a slightly different care plans like more or less light, more or less water, different soil types, pruning if that is a requirement, but you learn all that as you go along, there's always people here to give you help or instructions. The main thing though is to learn NOT to stress, Gardening indoors or out is meant to be enjoyable, so take your time, Plants very rarely just die, there are normally signs of plant stress or disease, bug infestation well before the plants give up and die so use the routine I suggested and as you water, wipe or just mist the plants, have a little look and if any REAL changes take action sooner rather than later.
Hope this helps you out and the plant will grow a flower for you many more years to come once it grows some more.
Best Regards, WeeNel.
