So... daugher is not going to make it then, Catmint?
I will put the poppy seeds in the "orphan seeds" box for perennials (even though the hollyhocks are biennials -- I dont' have a box for that!)... then those that want them can pick out their favorite colors. Please check before you go, too, and get any unclaimed extras. :-)
I don't think anybody else has spoken for the hollyhocks, so they're yours Catmint.
The Alsobia is just the cutest little plant, and incredibly forgiving of neglect. I gave a start to my dentist a couple years ago, and he mentions it every time I see him... he doesn't neglect his, and it's constantly in bloom, little feather-edged white trumpets!
"Think Spring!" seed swap now on Saturday March 1
You're right Jill, tomorrow is the meteorological first day of spring and vernal equinox is the astronomical first day of spring!
Does that mean that we are to dance naked under the moon?????????
We could all do that in Chef Lin's parking lot?
Does anyone want Black Pussywillow branches, I haven't rooted them yet but I can cut them for you to root? I should have rooted ones at the plant swap in May but you might like to get them now and see if they will root.
Have FUN!!! Have been thinking of you all today
Thanks, Jan! See you in May!
Woohoo!
Just me this evening, Critter, although my daughter wishes she could come share in the Chinese food! :-)
The Alsobia sounds really pretty but our lives are so crazy right now I'm afraid that a cutting would not do well for me...
No I don't have the coupon for March ! Sorry I didn't realize the other one has expired.
Muddy--
I copied out 3--so we can share...Gita
Thanks, Gita! You always try to have our collective backs. *hug*
OK, Catmint, but I might hit you with a Pothos cutting... they've already started striking roots so are ready to pot up, and Pothos is so tough you can't kill it with a stick.
I've got 2 really special sets of seed that I just don't think I'm going to get to... Japanese Morning Glory beauties from Bluespiral, and a bunch of Chilean wildflower seeds I bought from Ursula (she was doing a fundraiser to get a camera for another international DGer). I also have a couple of books from previous gift tables... I'm thinking we need a "bonus gift" table for items like this, just take a look after you've made your gift table selection. In previous years, everything has gone on the gift table and we've made 2nd selections (or 3rd) before we go... should we just stick with that format or go with "bonus gift?"
The Black Pussywillow finally rooted for me when I got unrooted branches from Holly at this time of year and stuck them into the side of a bed. It's such a pretty shrub!
Ric brought the cooler in from the garage and it is sitting in the living room getting nice and warm. We have a couple of bricks on the coal stove and will wrap them up in towels and put them in the bottom so the cooler is pre-warmed. It won't stay warm but it shouldn't be cold inside. When we get to Dutch Plant Farm.
thanks, Critter, but the pothos looks suspiciously like the plant I am fighting back from my neighbor's yard... Maybe I could quietly plant it on her side? ;-)
Critter, does pothos grow underwater? I saw a pic of a small round filled with water, had a few rocks in the bottom and a plant all underwater. I thought the plant looked like Pothos. I will take your cutting either way if no one else wants it.
Catmint, pothos is a tender tropical...can't survive our winter outside.
thanks for the clarification, Sally--now I find it:
"Overview Pothos is arguably the easiest houseplant to grow. It’s a long-growing, leafy vine that can reach 40 feet or more in tropical jungles. It usually confines itself to about 6-10 feet in containers, but don't be surprised if yours just keeps growing. A reader, Jenny, wrote in to tell me hers is well over 100 feet long. Her living room must have ideal growing conditions!
Pothos is tolerant of low light conditions and erratic watering. Although pothos can flower, it is rare to see one in flower. Pothos are high on the list of plants that can help purify indoor air."
well, my record this winter with indoor potted tropicals is not great... :-( Right now I think I'm going to stick with my asparagus fern, kalanchoe, and amaryllis bulbs.
Safe trip, everybody! See you at the swap!
Ric is on his way Jill, stopping at your house first then Dutch Plant Farms if he keeps to the schedule that we made. I on the other hand am not. Having serious pain in my hip and need to stay prone to be comfortable at all. Sure will miss seeing you all, I was so looking forward to this.
Holly, so sorry I'm not going to have the chance to meet you! :-(
Same here. It is always so nice to meet in person.
*gentle hugs* and hoping you're up and about soon, Holly! You were missed, as was Chantell and others who were unable to attend...
Thanks to everybody for a wonderful event! We're such a diverse group of individuals, and it's just a joy to visit with everybody. I end up feeling like a hummingbird, sipping a bit of conversation from this flower and that, never quite having my fill! At the spring plant swap, I swear, I am going to sit in a chair. ROFL
Hope everybody got home safe tonight. I bet I'm not the only one pawing through my bag of new seeds with an expression of dragon-lust in my eye!
It was so great to meet so many of you tonight, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the plant swap!
Thanks for all the seeds, too. I felt like a pig at the trough. I can't wait to see them come up! Tomorrow morning is dedicated to winter sowing.
Critter, thanks again for organizing everything.
Glad to hear it went well.
I know, why do we even bring chairs to a swap? I understand perfectly well about sipping a little nectar from this flower and that one. Sometimes missing one and feeling badly about it. trying to taste from everyone is fun!
Ric's home, he had a great time and came home with wonderful plants.
Sorry. I posted this in the continuation thread:
I'm home safe and sound. I had a great time seeing Y'all, but something was missing. Ah, it must have been Holly. I missed her as much as you did. Jill, a BIG THANK YOU and YOUR LITTLE FLOWER for hosting yet another successful gathering. David, sorry we didn't get to visit, next time we'll take time.
Thanks for all the seeds, and plants, everybody, thanks Jill for organizing, thanks Joyanna for entertaining Mark,
Holly! I forgot to tell Mark to get the orchid out and give Ric! I am so sorry!. THank you for the pretty pot, I have the perfect plant for it, soon as I repot I will get a pic.
So nice to meet Muddy1!. I talked alot with Jill's friend Kathy and her daughter Elizabeth who is trying to get into homesteading, and finding it quite challenging along with work and family.
We enjoyed the discount at DP Farms. I got a little Anthurium from the clearance- Thanks Robin Catbird for that- and Gita gifted me with two Christmas cacti, I'll have somehing to work on if we get stuck inside yet again with the "white death"
coleup- we forgot pictures entirely but I remembered your seeds and tuberoses.
I have seeds to mail to Paul and Happym.
Sorry to miss all the fun and good people and good food! Jill, sounds like you've done it again.
Thanks Sallyg, I'll try to get my sleigh up your way soon. Sorry the brick lined cooler went orchidless.
Sorry to have missed this but Bobbin, as usual, gave me a hard time about going so I said I give up. We're not going. I will be seeing you all at the plant swap with or without him. Button.
Thanks for organizing it, Jill! I was good this time and only took a few packets. :)
Muddy, it was great meeting you! Unlike Jill, I didn't get to visit with everyone so I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again at Aspen's.
Coleup, do you still want Cheyenne Spirit seeds? I think the last time we talked about it you said you were okay with not getting any, so I wasn't sure if you still wanted them.
Wonderful afternoon and so glad we got to meet new members whose names we had seen. Great gathering, but many were missed. At least there was no snow falling this time. Holly, your glass creation was so cool.
Thanks all for a wonderful swap! Cannot believe all the goodies I came home with--so many cool seeds! :-) Great seeing everyone--and thanks for organizing, Jill! Missed those who could not make it.
SSG I'm fine without Cheyenne Spirit seeds as I have plants that should come back from last year. Are you going to winter sow them now? And thanks for sorting out the caladiums and tuberoses!
Ditto on what the others have said. Jill and Joyanna, thanks for organizing once again! I really enjoyed meeting Muddy, Kathy (with a C or K?), and Elizabeth. Great folks. As always, I had a great time talking gardening to my hearts content with some great friends. Holly and both Judy's were sorely missed too.
I wasn't going to do much seed starting this year, seems like the last two years I got things underway, but then fizzled out when it came time to get them in the garden. I think I started too early and decent weather for getting outside came too late. However, I guess I can't help myself when I see all those seed choices spread out before me. Looks like I'll be sowing seeds most of today :)
Gita, Mike has two friends at the Moose Lodge who are interested in growing heirloom tomatoes, so I grabbed a couple of packets from your wonderful seed box for them. I also grabbed datura and columbine seeds for me... Jill, I grabbed that bunch of Japanese morning glory seeds - I really want to grow these! So many other things too - grey pumpkins, lobelia, mist flower, and the list goes on...
I fell asleep as soon as I got home, but am now wide awake and ready to get started LOL...
What a nice get-together! So nice to visit with folks I hadn't seen in quite a while, and such a treat to connect in person with new faces Muddy, Elizabeth, Cathy, and Catmint. Had a great time but wished I had managed to hang out with everyone. Sadly, I missed some due to lack of time. Hopefully, at the spring plant swap I'll manage to make amends. Thanks everyone for a great evening of company (and seeds and plants too of course).
Ditto to all the above....Thank you Jill for coordinating this again.
Sorry I was a bit "lump-on-the-log"--been fighting this cold since last Thursday.
Gonna go to work today--we'll see how it goes...
I am happy so many people found seeds they could use from my BOX.
Nothing much changes in this BOX--so the new folks had a field day...
Hope all the seeds sprout for you and all the tomatoes bear loads of good fruit.
Gita
Such a wonderful little party! It was great to see everybody again and meet new friends!
Many thanks to Jill for organizing the event and SSG for sorting the bulbs.
yes, thanks to SSG and Critter for all the bulb-sorting, and to Donner for bringing all the boxes to the restaurant. Muddy, Elizabeth, and Kathy so nice to meet you and find kindred spirits among you! Greenthumb, Ecnalg, and Ric, so nice to finally meet you and put faces to usernames! :-) Thanks also to Sally, Happy, and others who will be seed and bulb fairies to those whose presence we missed. :-(
Catbird, Happy, and SSG--you all totally *rocked* at the game--I felt lucky to be in your midst! Am very happy with the Misty bulb I got from the gift table--it even has roots and a green shoot showing! Thanks to whoever contributed this. Hopefully, I will have a shot of it blooming to share with you all sometime soon.
And thanks to those who brought lovely seed collections to share--Gita, Greenthumb, and Critter, I enjoyed finding so many gems. Aspen, I can totally relate with your statement about coming home with far more than I had planned because there were so many tempting choices! :-)

Another great seed swap! Thank you Jill for all the organizing and work to get it together. The buffet was full of great food (including those green beans, why am I obsessed about them?) and the tables filled with good talk.
The game was fun and I got the pot from the gift table that I had my eye on, now to fill it with something wonderful.
Thank you Sally and Mark for letting me hitch a ride again.
I'm off to find a bunch of pots and some soil in the shed, and make labels, and look up some info.
Thanks Catbird, treated me to my selection at the nursery- lovely Anthurium with veined leaves.
THanks Gita, brought a dinner of stuffed cabbage so I don't have to cook tonight
Coleup, I'm glad you or anybody else didn't get lost en route... I left my cell phone at home, and Jim wasn't there to pick it up either!
The 'Misty' bulb was a gift from Chris at ADR (he didn't charge me for those extra amaryllises that didn't sell). And the caladiums (those in the bag with the polka-dot cache pots and those in your goodie bags) were a gift from Bill at Caladium Bulbs 4 Less.
These caladiums are random varieties (the ones Bill sells by the pound), so there's no telling what you'll get! I'd get them started inside, maybe in late April or early May, if you want to see their colors before you plant them out. Like peppers or petunias, they don't like to be planted before the soil has warmed. They can also be grown as house plants! Bill advises keeping them at least at 60 degrees before planting -- that's why we hauled them all inside yesterday!
I appreciate those who agreed to play bulb or seed fairy, some at the last minute to help folks who didn't make it. Chantell, I have your tuberose bulbs. Donner, I have your box of Caladiums. Anybody looking for particular seeds that I didn't deliver (or might find as I dig through my stash), please Dmail me! I will be starting extra "Hot & Spicy" basil and Aleppo peppers to share at the plant swap, especially since those were 2 things I didn't manage to bring to the seed swap.
Big thanks to Donner for helping with the trivia questions, especially for that last minute crunch which could have been avoided (my bad; sorry!). SSG, you were tops with the tuberose sorting & pulling orders -- all while keeping Joyanna entertained with "helping" you. And Sally -- gosh, what would I do without such a capable person dealing with the monies?!
And of course, a big thank you for all of you who came, bringing seeds, enthusiasm, and more... gardeners are just a friendly, generous bunch; there must be something about getting your hands dirty that produces fun, down-to-earth people. As always, I had a blast, and so did Sunshine Girl!
