Wild onions as companion plants?

Cascade, VA(Zone 7a)

I have been reading up on the companion planting method, and i read where onions make great companions for tomatoes, last year i had some wild onions start popping up in my small veggie garden towards the end of the growing season (from who knows where, lol!). I wonder if i could use these wild onions as a substitute companion planting for cultivated onions? (seeing as i dont plan on growing any for eating). Of course keeping their numbers manageable and just leaving a couple scattered here and there among the tomato plants. Or would i just be better off yanking them out? Thanks!

My tomato companions are basil and monarda- but even if you arent eating them- I have the green onions from groc store stuck in the ground. I wouldnt plant onions nex to tomatoes simply because onions love a hi N-P fertilizer and that would be bad for the maters. Cant see as the wild alliums would hurt, tho they wont do anything for pest deterrence,

ok thanks, i was thinking that if the wild onion idea wasnt that great, that i would go with nasturtium. I guess i am the weird one of the bunch, because the smell of onion actually makes me dry heave, lol!!

Makes me ravenous hungry- but the milk from the cows that partake of the spring onions wasnt so sweet, chuckl. Good luck.
