Can someone help me identify this houseplant? You can see the newer leaves and older leaves here along with the red seed pods. Does anyone have experience saving the seeds of this plant and germinating them?
What is the plant?
Hi Doug -
You have a Chinese Evergreen, also known as Aglaonema. I love this plant and have had them for years. I have never tried to germinate any of the seeds - that might be a fun experiement. Let us know if you do and what happens.
I germinated some seeds many years ago I pinched from a plant next to the office elevator. Seemed very simple back then but I haven't tried it since cuttings are so simple. I think I removed the pulp much like a clivia and treated it like any large seed.
Thanks for the information! There are so many seeds on the plant, I am tempted to harvest them. It has been sitting in this location for years, and I have never noticed the red seeds before. Maybe it has to become root-bound to produce them.
I think you should ask for permission to do that.
