CLOSED: 2013 Fall Round Robin/Seed Swap -On the Wing (Round 1) P. 2

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Hey everybody - nice and quiet from the snow day.

Most of you know my dog is very ill, so I've been pretty quiet. I've yet to get ahold of Lanakila and Mike, but that's my fault, not theirs.

I'll make those calls today and we'll see when/where the robin heads next.

Hope all's well in all corners.

A.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

I ask Nisi to contact you for the addresses so that she can mail by monday & to contact you .
So Sorry about your dog Hope she gets well soon .

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

My guess was Feb 11th...so that robin is late! Well, I just missed the mark anyway. Enjoy the robin...wherever it is....

Bordentown, NJ(Zone 7a)

The robin is sitting in my house awaiting its next directive. I added a variety of commercial vegetable and annual flower seeds--that's what I mostly have to give. Thank you all for your generosity.

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Lanakila and Mike should have responded on this thread.

Amanda, that is NOT your fault. If they want seeds, they should let us know. (And you, of course!)

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Yes I Agree also they should post Just as the rest of us or get by passed as others did .

(6) Respond within 24 hours to communications from other participants and HOST of the Robin by dmail, telephone, or other means deemed acceptable by the HOST;

12) Be hung in effigy and/or ostracized forever by participants and/or HOST for failure to follow these RULZ..

Sorry RULES_ R_ RULES :)

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes Rules are , but their still a pain ,, Able to relieve them though sometimes ,,

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Amanda I'm Not Blaming anyone I'm Just saying These Robins are For all to share & What makes it Nice is when People that have the time to sign up should have time to post Now & again to let us know they are still with us . We all look forward to Keeping track of Where he is & It should NOT BE Up to the HOSTESS To Track Down the players .

So I Don't what too get into any debate Just saying Players should be watching & posting.
well off to my Blood draw back later today .

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Lost my post. Carp.

Susie you're absolutely correct and that's what the RULZ are for. It's run pretty smoothly, so a hiccup here.

Somalia says she's been off DG for a while and surprised that did not trickle down to us. Well, in some circles we are a small community, but it still has 600,000 members!!! :D

I'll try Mike again ... I'm not sure I have his phone number after all that! I will dig thru the old emails we traded. Make the decision by the end if the day.

Unless there is a close contest test in our door prize, then I'll just have to come up with extra prizes. :D

Dg won't let me upload a pic of my dearly departed doggie. :/

A.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

NisiNJ - go ahead and send her on home to me!

I haven't heard back from Mike, and it doesn't look like he sent his telephone to me earlier on in the program. I told him he could participate in the spring robin if he wanted to - that's fair. In any event, let me look up top to see who is going to win our little bet .. ...

Looks like Gardenseeder and WWK are close on that one.

Let the games continue!!!

I wish I was a bird , and could fly off whenever I wanted to .. preferably to someplace warm ..

Then only thing I can fly off of , Is The Handle ....

Nice link A , gives hope ,

Oh ho!!!

This giant asteroid of a Robin landed on my front porch today. I haven't touched it yet, fear I will need to get the dolly out to bring her in.

Congratulations on a successful landing!

I think the door prize (whatever it is?!) goes to Sue/CheerMom as she guessed the 27th. Is that right? On or before has been the rule Methinks.

Going to get thru the box and see what there is to see.

Then, I will update the Spring Robin thread and start new threads, etc., to get her back up in the air ASAP.

Please send thoughts or comments on this Robin, likes, dislikes (I mean about the Robin, not the Host), and anything that might make the next bird fly easier.

Thanks for playing! I had a great time. :)

I have two comments:

1: Chaff takes up space and makes the robin heavier

2: When a participant is ready to send the robin to the next person, they shouldn't have to wait around to find out who and where that person is. And the host shouldn't have to check up on them, either-- they're either in and active, or out. All anyone has to do is look at the thread to find out If they're next, and post that they're ready so there are no uncertainties. It's not fair to everyone else--including the host-- for the robin to be held up like that.

OK, that's it, I've had my say. Otherwise, it was great, as always. Many thanks to everyone who gave us so much to choose from!!! My stash runners over ;-)

I thought it was great. Thank you so much for hosting.

A big thank-you for hosting.
I'm sure enjoying my seeds.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Groovy! Pam - duly noted.

I had a question for NISII:

Is this the way the box looked when you shipped it? It sure almost looks like it's been opened and re-taped.

I've heard on the thread that the box was damaged and arrived in poor condition. I'm wondering if the PO is inspecting the package.

Amanda,
I had the Agriculture inspector call me once and ASK if he could check a box. He said that if the package was priority mail they couldn't stop it in transit without permission because there could be something "time" sensitive inside. They only check boxes if they think something hazardous is inside or if it's leaking. If the box was damaged they would put more tape on it. The Postal Service is so strapped for funding that I doubt they stop anything that doesn't just scream "hazardous".

Amanda

That is the box that I switched everything over when I had it. The box looks long and narrow - is that right?

I am not sure how many people were after me.

Carolyn

Edited to say the box didn't look like that when I put the seeds into it!

I got that box from Carolyn in good condition and sent it on the same way. It sure looks tampered with now!

The box was well loved but intact. I think what happened on the trip back to Amanda was that a PO worker piled other boxes on top of it and the sides buckled, possibly dislodging the tape from its moorings. There were two levels of tape because I possibly did not rip off the old tape but put more tape on top of it. I don't think it was inspected. If it had been, they would have done a better job resealing it! I did take a picture of the Robin just after I opened it but it showed only the contents, not the outer box.

As I ended up being the last stop on the Fall Robin trip, I guess it will be the spring participants who will have access to the (mostly) vegetable seeds I added. Eat hearty!
