CLOSED: 2013 Fall Round Robin/Seed Swap -On the Wing (Round 1) P. 2

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Meadowyck...these are under lights inside... so far I've started 125 pots and already have 23 that have sprouted. Here's a pix from Jan 26, 2013, last year. Was alot further along then...lol. This year things were started on Jan 14.... I usually start things in December but just wasn't motivated I guess.

Mippi did you decide to start that thread? LOL.. Please...thanks if you do..

OK, Amanda, I'm next, so I dmailed my addy etc to Carolyn. Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!!!!!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

oops - so susie and mippi were wringing their hands on the OLD thread about where the robin went - didn't check my Dmail before I replied, but Judy has shipped to Carolyn and all is well, as near as I can tell.

Have been busy traveling with meetings for master's research and such. Still checking in every night so help me keep the bird on track while I am busy being crabby somewhere else.

Thanks!

The eagle, I mean the robin has landed!

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

CAROLYN i PUT AN EVY WITH YOUR NAME ON WITH THE SEEDS YOU WANTED oops sorry for caps

Athens, PA

I did find it Susie. I will have seeds for you too - are you in the second round or should I send them directly to you?

Athens, PA

Just a heads up - the robin goes tomorrow. I have sent the DC number to both Pam and Amanda.

When I received the robin, it was in a medium flat rate box with the top bowed up. I was truly surprised at how much fit into that box. I knew when I added my seeds that it would not fit into a medium flat rate box. I thought I had a large flat rate box on hand and did not, so I put the robin into a larger box that I received from something I ordered from Amazon.

The price on the medium flat rate box when I received it was $12.95. Running the label through USPS.com with my box and printing out my label, cost $6.95 - granted Pam isnt terribly far from me, however - it is costing half the shipping.

Thanks

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

How ever that was decided , probably because of weight indications , and box durability ,,
That is true many times and often , if your not exceeding a certain weight a standard (good quality ) shipping box is often less to ship ...
Save , save where you can ,, is part of the idea also... good going ... from me ..

Thanks for the report on postage Carolyn. Very enlightening.

Everyone....Snoopy's kidney disease has relapsed. I am not good for much. I am going to send Susie my phone numbers in case something comes up, otherwise keep up the good work. I have not been online much as there is personal/family strife right now as well.

Hope to have better news to report soon.

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

Hang in there, Amanda. Winter sucks, seems unfair that other things should go wrong too. I hope you both feel better soon.

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7b)

Thanks Pam - mornings are the worst. Stuff like DG and FB and email used to keep me distracted, but now I prefer to stand around staring off in the distance and wringing my hands.

Susie...Deno method....best in 70* light (73% in 3rd week). All started at 40* rotted.
Mipii...have you ever started?

Have fun Pam!!!!!!

(Robin) Blissfield, MI(Zone 6a)

Kathy, I just WS first time, we'll see how it goes. I was just telling Susie I think I'm going to love it...bee and butterfly attractant, large basal type leaves and large purple to purple/black towering umbels. Can't find anything not to love (except its biennial/short lived perennial and seeds seem to be fragile but prolific). It's also known as Korean Angelica.

Kiowa, CO(Zone 5b)

Let me know how it does!

(Pam) Warren, CT(Zone 5b)

I have the green one, just love it. I started with a plant, then saved seeds and Spring Sowed them. I did that 2 years in a row, now I have a perennial patch, don't have to worry about it. There are always some young'uns and some bloomers.

The robin is huuuuuige-- and the box is even huger -oops, that's not a word, is it?! However, I don't have anything here here the right size. The medium flat rate, which I do have, is way too small. I'll see what the postage is at the PO tomorrow, and decide from there what to do. Most likely, since seeds don't weigh much, I'll send it on in the same box.

I've had a lovely time with it, and am nearly finished. I didn't have to look up nearly as much this year, that really cuts the time down. I found quite a few things to add to my current stash, and added in a few more extras to be shared. Thank you WWKathy, Evelyn in the Garden, Amanda Esq for your special packets.

Gardenseeder is next-- do I have to wait for Amanda to send me the address? Or are you covering for her, Susie?
