Merry Christmas everyone!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

HAPP NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
2014 will be the beginning of the next phase of my life. After 33 1/2 years I quit my job on Monday, you would think after that length of time you would retire but where I worked you have to work to age 65 to retire, not that you get anything for working until that age. I was/am sad, excited, and happy all at the same time, but it was time for me to leave.

I am so excited to get to play in the garden room and the solar room, work on the genealogy, start getting pictures in photo albums I have inherited all the shoe boxes from sister and Mom, transfer videos over to dvds, clean my house top to bottom, go thru lots of stuff to either donate, toss, or sell, and time to visit on Daves with you all, work harder with the master gardeners, volunteer, spend time with friends/family and do lots of craft projects. I have lots of plans, boredom will not be a problem...rofl I worked between 10 to 12 hours a day and commuted 2 hours so I have gained ALOT of time back in my life!

I hope everyone is going to have a great new year like me....!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW! That is a long time to work at one place! Where did you work? I take it you were just fed up with work? Glad to hear your taking time for just you!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Yeap it is work but enjoyable for me and finally get to accomplish things for me. Maybe I can even make some plans for the garden instead of just plopping plants here and there.

Now is a perfect time to do the house stuff cause it is too cold to do much of anything else seeings we are going to hit single digits at night. I was so tired of getting up at 4:30 leaving my nice warm bed to go out to my cold frozen car to commute for an hour.

Sides I am going to take some road trips and end up meeting some of you so look out!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Road trip sounds nice! Grab a few other ladies that are on your way and come to Texas. I can meet you all in San Antonio.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Joyce 33 1/2 years, wow. How in the world did you not get tried of it? Granted I don't know what ya did, but I have no attention span... Which I guess is ok for now since I can't find work.

Happy New year to everyone.

Hope all of you up north are doing ok and staying warm.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Doing good up here at least warm in the house.
Sent my brother who lives in Arkansas told him it is so cold in Arkansas they issued a shoe alert...rofl.

My bassett went out and came back in shivering so hard I put my husbands old coat on him. It is major miserable.
We are use to cold but not quite this cold normally, but I worry more about people who aren't use to cold at all those south of here. Deejay how are you?

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

This part of the country seldom sees this type of cold temperatures and for this longer period of time. Right now I think it's 10° with a windchill putting the temperature around 2°. It may stay around 7-10 today and drop to around tonight. Warming on Wednesday.

One of the cats has been outside three times and just can't stay there.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

COLD & Knee DEEP in Snow Staying warm here in the House , but i have to go out & take care of the chicks I hung a space heater out in the barn & I was nervous about it all night .
still to dark to go out but i can see NO FLAMES So All Looks fine out there :)

I Have 4 of the Young ones here in the house in a pen it is to get bitter cold today & Don't want to take a chance of losing them they are just to small . I Just hope the heater will keep the other ones warm enough.

well off to check more forums ya all have a great day will keep ya informed .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for checking in ladies, glad your OK! Waiting to hear from the others.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Poor wild birdys heavens I don't know how they are surviving. Eating me out of house and home but the poor things with those little tiny feet.

We have never had temps this low since I have lived here. Schools are shut down. A guy we knows says well I remember it being this cold when I was a kid.....I had to wear dresses to school, and trust me iit never got this cold. I had to ride the school bus and would of froze to death.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I have heard on the news that the temps are the lowest they have been in 40 years!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

birds are eating a lot here too.

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

I just saw two deer pass along the back. Looking for food no doubt. If I could get back there, I'd throw them some dried corn.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Heat wave tomorrow 35 above ....rofl.

Ok I hate to keep saying this but I am sooo happy to be home all the time. Course when the checks stop I may not be so happy...rofl. I had alot of vacation built up because it was almost impossible to be off a week at a time. So I guess it is a good thing now...roffl.

I am going thru the drawer that I have thrown recipes in for the last ? years. I am reading the recipes and wondering with the internet why am I keeping these. LOL so unless they are hand written by someone I know I am going to pull my big girl panties up and toss them. Wish me well it is really hard to do...wonder why.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a lot of snow Susie!

Seems it is always hard to purge stuff like that! I tell myself, I know I saved it for some reason, but can't remember why.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Funny in the past when I worked I rarely cooked since I got home sooo late in the evening but I would cut a recipe out and stick it in the drawer, now that I would have time, DH can't have starches, so most of those recipes I can't use...;)

Said Missouri and Texas are being hit hard by the h1n1 flu. One forecast siad it wasn't included in the flu shot and another said it was....

WOW 47 on the weekend...wow

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

It really has been a wild ending to 2013, guess it didn't want us to forget it... I sure don't mind putting out of my mine.

I'm praying for better weather for 2014 to be warm for the rest of the year.... and lots of wonderful garden plants for us all.

Last I heard, most of the flu cases are on the Eastern part, near Houston and Dallas. And so far something like 16 died from the flu.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I toast to that! We went to town and although the temps are only high 30's low 40's everyone was out! Rofl.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

gadget figured out how to escape from her yard yesteay. I homr from church and she was in the back yard waiting for me

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They can be stinkers.
If we leave the house, Luna goes outside on a chain. If we leave her in the house she chews everything, garbage pillows from the sofa. So she is a chain up dog while we are gone. We chain her because she digs holes under the fence.

Happy Ground Hog Day....well now that I have this new found freedom I have sooo much more time. I am finishing knitting a baby blanket for my niece, I actaully started it for my niece 27 years ago....rofl, now she is having her baby and I am finally finishing it...too funny.

But I wanted to show you my quilt I started a million years ago and I am going to finish it! It is pretty close to being done. It is completely hand done. I took a class and most of you will know it is called a sampler. I loved that it is done in a small frame to do the blocks. I didn't remember but I must of made a king size, which is funny we have never owned a king size bed...LOL

I am so enjoying having time.

Joyce that is just a beautiful quilt. You can be very proud of the work you have done in it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

WOW! That is awesome!!!

Clarksville, TN(Zone 7a)

Very nice, Joyce. I do like those colors. I sleep under a handmade wedding quilt every nite. So comforting. Nothing else feels like a quilt. :)

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

very very Pretty Joyce So love to see how creative all you ladies are . sure envy you all :)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Thank you all for your nice comments. I know alot of you have made multiple quilts and after just working on my 'simpler sampler' I have so much respect for you all to say the least. Glad cotton last forever. Did you all know that airplanes use to be covered in cotton, that tells you how strong and long lasting cotton is. After planes were covered in cotton, course they painted on the covering. I started making this quilt in 1998...rofl. I found where I paid for the class. LOL

Would love to see some pics of your alls quilts or whatever you are working on.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Last quilt I made was this appliqued one for a friend that loves quilts! Close up of the cats.

OMG That is too cute....bet she loved it. Gotta smile everytime you look at it.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks. She took it to work with her, and ask if I could make 3 more, when I told her how much just the fabric was she had a cow, and have not heard back from her. I will not make them until I see a good down payment. With fabric going from $8.00 to $12.00 a yard, quilts are not a cheap hobby.
