Continuing prayers for some relief from the pain. Make sure you get your rest, too, dear
Ric's Road to Recovery
Holly: I am so very sorry to hear this -- and we all know how hard working and stoic Ric is, so if Ric is finding this painful, then the pain must be beyond words. Just please make sure the doctors are considering everything -- that they are not making assumptions about the cause of the pain. You need to be very much "in their faces" so that they do the best possible job in evaluating Ric.
So sorry to hear this, Holly. Sending healing thoughts his way... Must be very hard on you as well!!
Thanks, things are going better. Care coordinator was in this morning. Said she was glad to see him still breathing as they gave him enough meds to put down a horse last night. He is doing much better today. They got him to PT this morning had him in a chair for a bit. He still has epain but more manageable.
Thanks for filling us in, Holly.
Pain is pain--and it is hard. Hang in there, Ric! It WILL get better....
I have always found that thinking of how terrible all this feels and how bad the pain is--
you have to believe and say to yourself---"This too shall pass!"...
In the long run--you will be back digging and hoeing and hauling--and feel
wonderful that nothing hurts any more like it used to.
BELIEVE!!!!!...................Gita
Hopefully the pain management will continue to be more and more successful. Now Holly needs some rest.
Oh goodness, I'm sorry, I misunderstood. (thought it was miraculous that he'd be home so soon!). Well, my prayers sure do continue, for a healthy healing, and a LOT less pain... for both of you. It's just as hard for the care giver as it is for the patient sometimes.
HUGS to you both!!!
Holly -- when all this is done, you may be wishing for some of those horse meds for yourself! Well, maybe at least a glass of wine....
So sorry to hear that the spasms are giving you such a difficult time right now, but so good to hear that the surgery is behind you and the previous pain you had been having appears to have been taken care of. Hope from this point on you improve rapidly. And hugs to Holly for being there for you.
Praying today for more pain relief!
Speedie, love that cartoon!!
Hoping that last night was more restful for you both. Also praying that your brain quickly relearns not to cringe and spasm at every movement. Ironic that surgery which is painful enables our nerves to now send pain signals full blast and uncompressed when before they had been muted.
I once wished that the ear wax my Doc removed could be replaced since the noise level at the Child care Center where I worked was deafening after removal!
Ric, it is okay that you didn't fully anticipate the extent of necessary repairs your surgery revealed.
We both know that most of what we take on is like that as we don't know what we have on our hands until we get in there. At least that's how it goes in my neck of the woods. And, just like your barn is filled with lots of spare parts, tools and materials, I'm sure your life is filled with whatever it will take to mend and move through this latest series of challenges.
Wise words from Coleup, as we have come to anticipate!
Amen!!!
Ric and Holly---
Please look at this site and the amazing sculptures all made from plants.
My daughter, Aina, sent this to me....
Ric--this should cheer you up---WAYYYYY beyond any garden sculptures
you may have--or may be thinking of having.

Checking in - hope that pain gets under control soon. Hang in there and know many thoughts and prayers are with you.
My son in law, who just had back surgery, is always asking about your progress and wishing you a speedy (as possible) recovery, as we all are.
I hope this morning brings you more comfort!
Hi all, Yesterday Ric was way too zonked out so they cut back on the meds in preparation of sending him home today, but the spasms have returned. They are looking to see if they can get him into a rehab center where his pain mgmt Dr is. Hopefully this will be a good step where he can get his needed rehab and will be overseen by a the pain mgmt Dr that he has been working with the last year or two.
What a nightmare for you both. I hope the pain management doctor can get a handle on what is triggering the muscle spasms, and quickly.
Thanks for posting, Holly; I was starting to worry!

Holly, thanks so much for keeping us in the loop...you know how we worry and fret and care.
That rehab assignment sounds like a good match. Is it much further for you to travel? Hope it all works out and whatever move goes smoothly like those penguins sliding on ice Pat posted.
Holly, I'm so sorry to hear that the docs are still working on Ric's pain meds, but glad to hear that he will be overseen by a pain management specialist. I hope you're able to get some rest for yourself. Sending you healing thoughts!
Uugghhhh!! I've seen personally what those spasms do to a person. Son in law is almost free of them now. Hope Ric gets there sooner than later.
Oh man, so sorry to hear about those horrible spasms! The plan for rehab where his pain management Dr. works sounds like a really smart idea, praying for LOTS of good outcome!!!
Thanks so much for all the support coming our way. Just loved the penguin . Ric is doing better today. Had a rough start to the day , very early this morning, but since then he has been doing much better. Still a bit confused but has been moving around Sat up in a chair to eat, took a walk, showed some interest in where he was. They moved him this morning about 9:30 the move went very well, his pain mgmt Dr was in shortly after the move. I really like this place and think that it will be a good move. Although the Hospital was very good also. Really everyone we have dealt with have been very good.
Glad to hear the move went well! Praying for more pain relief and rest
hang in there baby!
Glad the rehab place seems good and Ric was able to get around a bit today!
so thankful for the kindness you are getting
It's such a blessing to feel that you are in the right place when experienced help is really important.. So glad it suits your needs.
So very glad that Ric is in the right place and he's getting good TLC. Thank you for the updates, and the prayers suuure do continue!
So true RRR, lol He slept much better last night. Was more clear headed today and is doing much better. They seem to be getting the pain meds more balanced. I know he will enjoy all the well wishes when he is good enough to read them.
That's wonderful news! You must be incredibly relieved. I'm very thankful.
Very glad t hear. Continued prayers and cheers for Ric!
Glad to hear of progress on the pain management front.
Have been meaning to share with you some of my recovery journey from when my neck was severely injured in auto accident a number of years ago. Muscle spasms after injury were severe and painful and over the days and months I learned various things that worked and did not work for me to relieve and lessen both. One thing I do clearly remember was what muscle spasms did to my brain: totally scrambled it. Like waves aand waves of overwhelming signals from all directions, wiping out all of my sense of self, I drowned in sensory overload where everything and anything was too much and I was frighteningly disoriented. Relief from this aspect of recovery came at the hands of a Med. Dr/Acupunturist who (because I balked at needles) inserted several gold or silver pellets in my ears! She inserted one pellet and imediately the disorientation cleared. I asked her what point she had stimulated and she said "Master Muscle".
Sending healing thoughts to Ric's "Master Muscle" and hoping that he continues to be more and more clear headed thru this journey!
Also have to say that I have sent up prayers of gratitude for how Ric kept moving and doing as it will surely help his recovery. Go Ric!
And, I hope you will share the pics of the cheerleaders Speedie posted as I think Alfie would be very interested!
Ric, so sorry I haven't been on lately and didn't know you had some surgery. Sure hope "Everything" came out all right & that you are home recuperating. Your timing on this is excellent because now you can do your gardening stuff next year when things warm up. Best of luck and our prayers are with you. Buttoneer & Bobbin.
