Waxy substance on young Jacaranda

Tomball, TX

This feels like it could be some sort of egg, but I can't be sure. Is this a disease or bug? I've seen something very similar on my Tomato plants.

Does it come off when you wipe or rub?

On such as small plant, I think I would simply clean it off by hand. Not let it develop into whatever it will be.

I agree with Diana! It looks like some type of scale insect, and young Jacarandas are prone to it. I would use alcohol wipes, or a paper towel saturated with alcohol and wipe them off asap.

Just noticed your posts. I have the same exact stuff on my Jacaranda. It is about 1-1/2 years old and about 5 feet tall. I just brought it inside for the winter and did not notice it before. The substance is on the top part. I looked at it under a microscope and it did not look like an insect, just blobs of waxy substance. The plant looks fine with no adverse affects so far. The leaves are falling from the bottom up which it did last year during the winter. Took your advice and cleaned it off with alcohol so shall see what happens and will post the results. Thank you for this thread. Marlene
