these tree are planted on the south side of the property and they are having some yellowing problems. Can any one advise how to treat it?They bear a small cone.
evergreen trees
These are lovely tree's, looks familiar yet cant think of the name.
The problem looks to me like either water or light problem however, there are several grubs that either bore or suck the softer tissue and this causes die back to the shoots under attack.
Can you tell how old the tree's are, when did you plant them and what prep went into the planting soil IF any. OH and do you know the name / type of tree you have.
Best Regards.
WeeNel.
Hi WeeNel, they were here when I bought my home 6 years ago , this problem happened before and the landscaper sprayed them. Now I have another landscaper but he was his helper and took over the business and I do not know if he know how to treat it.Did you see from the picture the type of cones it bears?I do not know the name of the trees.
It looks like some kind of cedar tree to me. I don't know about the brown needles except to say that evergreen trees loose a number of needles every year and interior ones die off as the tress ggrows and shades them.
Hi DOUG9345, so there is nothing I can do for the brown leaves?okay I will keep looking at it and hope it gets new growth. Thank you for the name.
Cones look like some of the Thuja.
Where is the yellowing? All over? New growth? Old growth?
Are you seeing any sort of pest? Evidence of pests like extremely fine webbing, or dark spots (bug poop)?
Here are a few ideas. Do a search that includes the possible pest and the word Thuja. See if that brings up anything:
Are any of the branches or leaves turning brown?
Ends of green branches have decidedly dead tips? Borer that specializes in the new growth. Tip borer, stem borer, girdler.
Inner parts (older, hidden inside) leaves turning brown? Old age.
Patches on the sunny side sort of yellow or brown more or less in the middle? Sunburn.
Fine webbing, more yellow, not brown, sort of speckled? Spider mites
Yes DianaK you were correct it is theThuja Tree, I saw a picture of the branches on line.I will keep reading up on it.Thank you for your help.
Hi Doug9345 , I researched the thuja tree and it states that they do turn brown in fall and the leaves fall off ,make mulch for the plants and they get new growth
Thujas will hold their leaves for several years, but yes, the interior growth will brown and fall. This is normal, not a problem. It keeps on growing this way, putting on new growth on the outside, and dropping some of the old growth. But if more and more of the growth is turning brown, not just the normal amount that is several years old, then there is a problem.
