2013 N Central TX RU Oct. 20th in Arlington TRADE THREAD #2

Fort Worth, TX

I gave every one a summer snowflake. They will start putting up leaves now, and bloom in late February or early March. I had some promised in trade and couldn't remember to who so I just passed them out to all. they will grow in shade, part shade, even in sun, die back in june or so, return in the fall.

I think the red salvia that went around with the fuzzy stems was lady banks? banksia? but I didn't bring it so can't be sure.

I put some lady in red salvia on the orphan table. Dont know if that is what the question is about.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I looked thru Skeeter's seed cache and picked out some packets of seed but I did not get home with them. Has anyone seen them? I think they were in a plastic grocery bag.

(Carol) Euless, TX(Zone 8a)

Beverly, I didn't take any red salvia, so it wasn't from me. I can't think of anything fuzzy that I took. I think I gave you the Veronica Speedwell "Georgia Blue". It's a groundcover with small leaves on long, thin stems.

My crinum lilies are in the ground. The leaves die back when it freezes, but they come back in the spring. I've had mine about ten years. They've dug themselves a little deeper, but still bloom. They came from my mom's flower bed, and my grandmother's before that. They never got too deep to bloom. My mom's crinums were massive after 20+ years, the stalks and blooms reaching 4-5 feet tall. I plant them with the bulb and first inch of stem completely covered. They are a very carefree plant in my yard.

Covenantgarden--I have the veronica speedwell in the ground. I remember considering using it years ago as a ground cover, but never bought it. So, I'm very happy to have it.

Steadycam3--You are probably right. Someone must have handed it to me off the Orphan table. Does Lady in Red have little thorns on a fuzzy, mostly soft stem? I looked up the pictures and it is beautiful. I hope that is what I have.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Bezzie, Im not aware of any Salvia that has thorns. Does the plant you have, have a square stem? Also, Lady in Red has a strong sage smell when you handle the plant.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

I went outside and got the pot. Yes, it does have a square stem. Thorns probably aren't a correct description. I should have said hairs Yes, it has a sage smell. Does this mean it is Lady In Red? The leaves are heart shaped and it has one red bloom on it.

Yes, that is Lady in Red.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks for the ID, steadycam3.

right. Lady banks is a rose. Lady in red. I planted mine out under the pine I think. finally it has rained, hope all my transplants do well

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Bezzie, I got some of your coleus off the orphan table and DG'ers said it's name is Henna. I thought you might like to know.

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Marty---I would say that is correct. The ones you took are in almost total shade. I have a pot in full morning sun and it is considerably redder. I looked at pictures and it looks right. Thanks for the info.

if the red salvia was in a bag bare root it was some that I had dug up as I have tons of it it re seeds freely...sorry not good at keeping track of technical names :-)
I was going to plant hings Sunday but felt it was too wet after the down pour we had Saturday night so everything is in the green house til Saturday now and hopefully buy then I will have decided where to put it all LOL

Finding the right spot for it seems to be the limiting factor for me, Mibus . I have often taken a year to plant everything I got in a RU. Sometimes I wait to let the plant get larger and have more roots before I plant it out.

I have already potted up the Plumies you gave me and some irises that were bare root but if it came in a pot, it is still in a pot. The coleus cuttings I got from Bezzie have rooted in water already and some of it, I have potted up, too.

Im still labelling things to get ready for the RU at Joy's on the 9th and I have a wedding this coming weekend so I only had this one to get ready for that. Im also busy taking cuttings of all my coleus to over winter inside. Wish I lived in a house with a glass roof!!!

Hah, Marty, don't we all wish we lived in houses with glass roofs or at least with greenhouses past the kitchen!

Fort Worth, TX

it would get hot with a glass roof. I am still choosing the spot for my bird of paradise from fall roundup, and for my passionflower vine from spring roundup. I kept the passionflower in a pot in the front flowerbed so I could remember to keep it watered and not lose it to the drought. Now it needs a home along a fence

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

A glass roof with motorized vents? It's really dim today. And we just got back from a wkd in Boston where it was FROSTY!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

motorized, yeah! I always thought it would be so cool to have a glass ceiling in the bedroom with a motorized cover so I could lie in bed and see the sky. And it would be ever better when it rained. I love the rain.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

I love the rain on a tin roof!

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Joy, my Grandmother had a tin roof and I loved hearing the rain but she also had oak trees and the house got bombed all night when the acorns were falling.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Wow! that must have been a lot of fun about the acorns, not!

Dallas, TX

I have a 'regular' roof and 2 large oaks. It's definitely, "Bombs away!" I have to be careful this time of the year when I'm outside. I feel like the squirrels are taunting me by aiming acorns at my head.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Very funny Joan!!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Dont forget about squirrels trying to make you slip on the carpet of acorns they been chunkin at ya too!

That's right, Kitt. I do tend to forget about that lovely carpet when I'm inside. I'm quickly reminded, however, as soon as I step, (or should I say slip?) outdoors.
