2013 N Central TX RU Oct. 20th in Arlington TRADE THREAD #2

Dallas, TX

Mibus2 - If you have time to dig up a pink crinum, I'll take it. I had been worried about being greedy but decided I could find a way to rationalize. :D No worries if you don't have time or energy to dig.

ALL - I have added one 6" Red Oak to my list. I planted it last summer and should have moved it to a larger container. However, it is still alive. Just needs TLC.

ALL - I reformatted my list to, I hope, make it easier to read. Please take a look when you get a chance to make sure I haven't omitted something promised to you or mistakenly added something thinking you promised it to me. Thanks.

Fort Worth, TX

if no one else needs a mexican flame vine, I will cheerfully adopt one. (I have bees - if the bees like it so do I)

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh I love that Coral Senecio. Thanks for all your research!

Dallas, TX

Bananna18 - Now you know why I can't take my eyes off the Senecio whenever I walk by!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Flower Child I will dig on Saturday it should be drier by then with the rain we have had.
I don't think I ever answered you as to the type of gardenias...they are evergreen ones and my "mother plant" is 4-5 ft tall
I have no idea the type of fern but it spreads easily

Reminder to all ....anything from the purple Mexican down i have to dig if anyone wants any of them.
well except for the morning glory tree starts those I will take cuttings

Mibus2 - I'm happy to get the gardenias and the fern. I'll understand if you end up having a problem digging things up. I'm concerned about skeeters in my empty pots that I'm bringing. I've kept them upside down, but they're still pretty wet. Don't need to be swatting skeeters while I'm driving!

Dallas, TX

Rouxcrew - Has anyone asked for your torch aloes? If not, I'd love one. Do you think it would grow in Dallas, Zone 8a, if I don't let it freeze?

Dallas, TX

Anyone want any Confederate aka Star Jasmine? I could probably bring some cuttings.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Gypsi, I will put your name on a flame vine.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I went by Randoll Mill park this morning and our name is on the marquee for Sunday, hooray!!

Dallas, TX

A note about the Senecio. I went by Nich Hard's 2nd location yesterday. I asked Brian, one of their good guys, if he knew what the plant was. He scratched his head for awhile and said if I come back Friday, he would have the name. We'll see. In the meantime, I snagged another seed pod off the plant. (Oh, slap me.)

Also, with permission, I got a couple flower heads (one bright yellow, one orange) after some fairly large marigolds. Will bring to the RU in case anyone wants to dry them for seeds.

And I 'think' I have some more seeds off the 4 o'clock. :D

(Carol) Euless, TX(Zone 8a)

Steadycam - I do have cenizo seeds for you, and I found a cenizo seedling under my bush. I have it potted for you if you want it.

Gypsi - I have garlic for you. I dug around mine and found two babies.

Everyone - I have the following available (updating my link too):
1 - Veronica speedwell groundcover, 4-inch pot
4 - althea seedlings, 4-inch pots
1 - orange daylily, quart pot
2 - 4 o'clock plants, white flowers, quart pots
2 - 4 o'clock seedlings, color unknown but either white or reddish-salmon, 4-inch pots
SEEDS: althea, hollyhock, false yucca, white 4 o'clocks, reddish-salmon 4 o'clocks

Mesquite, TX

I have 7 or 8 African Violet pots, some of which don't look like they've ever been used. Dropped off at my house by a garden friend some time ago who assumed that I grew anything and everything be it inside or outside.

Also have more than several packets of store bought seeds, some of which may be several years old but have been kept in good storage conditions. Would probably be good for someone who has/wants a "surprise" mixed garden that receives seeds from leftover packages and trades but isn't necessarily looking for a particular flower or plant. No guarantee on germination but worth a try if you're not choosy about species. Mix and match as it were...
Probably more other mixed garden "stuff" than I can count that I'll try to round up.

I have 3 or 4 amaryllis bulbs that bloomed last Christmas....they're in pots (which I need back) but in Boston I would just keep watering them like houseplants and eventually they'll bloom in the summer.

Here I don't have the space to keep them (or enough pots). I don't know what kind they are but probably popular ones from BLeeks or somewhere. Would anyone take them off my hands?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will take an Amaryllis Carrie. Check my list please.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Sheila, I can't take anything home, but thanks, I think I have 3-4. Do you want them all?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Hmmm. If I wanted lyre-leaf sage to grow in 2014 in Boston....would it live inside for 6 months? Could I just plant seeds? Do you have seeds, Sheila?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I would think since it is hardy to 5a it would live in a pot outside here. Here it is evergreen in the ground. But that said for travel purposes I do have plenty seeds. I will bring you a plant to try here, and seeds for up there. I have lots of lyre-leaf to share.

And one bare-root Amaryllis would be fine, just stick it in a sack. I already have one. What color are they btw?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Carrie if it's not too late could have have an Amaryllis

Hubby is a happy camper as he helped me move things from green house to garage to load my car...little does he know I will come home with a few things LOL

If anyone has extra pots they want to get rid of I am in need LOL

Dallas, TX

Mibus2 - I will be bringing LOTS of pots. Different sizes, shapes, etc. No inventory as too much work. I will note on my trade list that you, among others, want pots. (Note the 's' at the end of the last word in previous sentence.)

I have some 15 gal and 25 gal tubs for trees and shrubs. Might bring one or two. Haven't heard of any takers. Let me know if you're interested in those big boogers as well as 'normal' size pots.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

sure will take the big boogers too have some citrus tress I will need to repot one of these days LOL

Dallas, TX

Mibus2 - I'll bring you one of each size. Yesterday I bought a Coral Bark Japanese Maple that will eventually repot if I don't destroy it first. (On sale. 50 bucks plus tax. Woo hoo!) Tempted to go back and buy a green Japanese Maple (don't remember the exact name) but I want everyone to dissuade me from doing that.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ooo a Coral bark that sounds pretty and to tel yo not to go back ...well I can't I love Japanese Maples..only have one but would love more someday, but then would love to have more apple trees too LOL

Dallas, TX

Mibus2 - The Japanese Maples and other trees are on sale for 40% off until they sell out or the Xmas trees arrive. Just saying.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Thanks but my payday isn't until next Friday so that lets me out this time :-(

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

flower_child.....don't get the green maple, it is nice but it only turns red a couple weeks before the leaves fall, and the shape is not typical of the red maples, it is boring.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I am bringing all my amaryllis from last year. I d k what color they are--I tend to buy names I've heard of that are not too pink. Ie might be pinky-red and white (Appleblossom?) or maybe just red but I don't tend to buy white or green ones, that feels redundant with paper whites. I will also see if any of last winter's freesia are still there. These were all purchased at Lowes or Home Depot, so I doubt there will be anything very special. I will dump all these pots in a bag and you can all paw through them :). (Note how I avoid saying y'all.)

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Carrie, Y'all is actually a contraction of you and all. When I was in Delaware, several folks made fun of me but they said, "youse guys". I think y'all makes more sense than that.

Fort Worth, TX

Sheila,

I would like to try a lyre leaf sage.

All, I am afraid I will be hastily gathering plants up in the morning or later tonight. A death has left me quite shaken and I had to work today as well, I am however looking forward to roundup, a break from the tension.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I will have a Lyre leaf sage for you Gypsi.
I had to take time today myself to attend a memorial service for my neighbor's 42 year old daughter. They have had company this week and I tried not to get out to dig with my rear in the air while they were there, so did my last minute dig just before sundown. Now I have to get to the store and get food put together for tomorrow!
See everyone there!

Dallas, TX

Sorry to hear that both Gypsi and Sheila are dealing with such sadness. We'll all have to try our best to make merry tomorrow.

Ack! If only I'd finished packing the car tonight. (It's not in a garage.) I just get so distracted.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I am also bringing bags in case anyone needs to bag anything up :-)

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I agree on both sentiments.

Fort Worth, TX

I did not get my trade list gone through. The death was someone very close to my family, almost a father to me, and I am just slammed with stuff. So I am coming, teabags and honey are in the truck, I am loading bulk seeds and empty envelopes, bulk bulbs and already potted lantana, and someone just tap me on the shoulder and tell me what I promised. I will bring the nandinas hoping to find them homes. I have to go by church on the way, and find out when the memorial is and I am liable to be a little short on brains today. Loading a bucket of pond plants too, and food, so I remember to eat, and out the door I must fly.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Fly safely Gypsi! I didn't know the person who died, it was my neighbor for over 20 years' daughter. She was 42 and was hit and killed by a car early this pas Tuesday. Thanks for the thoughts though, and my thoughts are with you Gypsi.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Marty, thank you for the White Orchid tree, can we have the scientific name, Please?

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Bauhinia candicans for the white orchid tree.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Thank you Marty, I hope your trip back went well, now to take care of all those plants.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, Im resting today. I seem to enjoy the plant swap more each time I come. Truth be told, the small size of the crowd made it easier for me to talk to more people. The weather was too gorgeous as well. October has always been my favorite month of the year for weather.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I agree. If there are a lot of people, it's hard for me to move around and talk to a lot of people. Yesterday was perfect!
