Lots going on at my house and I haven't checked in lately. I'm astounded at the damage the new construction is causing for you. Can't believe the building inspector would allow this without an engineer of record passing it. Sure hope the new neighbors don't turn out to be so self centered that they make you miserable. In Dallas, at several stages of construction there is an inspection. Anything like you are faced with would put up a red tag and construction would stop until all of this is rectified. Oh well, as my dad always said, "Twenty years from now we won't know the difference". Helps me get through the day sometimes.

As I always tell all of you...I MISS YOU.

Yes, I had the city come out and inspect, they ceased for a day to clear up whatever issues they found, as they were not inclined to share. Met the new neighbors yesterday and they are cool! Having said that am considering selling an moving back to Seattle, only a contemplation stage at the moment.
I went back to work for a while at a sports flooring company managing the warehouse, so far cool people, small and laid back! Loving it

Glad you are happy. Seattle? Seems like the world is more laid back and easy there.

You would think, but they've had a couple of riots there which surprised me. Anyway just in the thought and yap stage of it.

Randy, what a great collection of crotons. Love, love, love the pink and white one, you rarely see those colors in crotons.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you! I've really expanded the collection this year, love them!
This is an unusual variegated Plumeria. They are graphted in order to produce the effect.

We have bananas on two of our trees! They should be ready to pick soon!

The weather here is beautiful. We have a cold front coming in this weekend. It should cool it off some.

Hope everyone is well! Have a great day!

Jeanne,

Looking at your picture # 2 it looks like its a variety of cooking banana.

Anybody agree?

Hi, everyone.

I have to differ on the bananas. Those bananas look like every banana I harvest from my tree. They're not plantains, they're just green bananas. A few of my friends have bananas, too and that's what they look like in their trees, too: about 5 inches long, 1 inch wide.

I often wonder why we never see "supermarket" bananas in our trees, the kind Dairy Queen uses to make banana splits. But those little bananas are delicious. We never waste a single one. When we have too many of them ripening at the same time, I peel them, portion each Zip-Lok bag with enough bananas to make a banana bread recipe and I freeze them. Who knew bananas could be frozen?

The landscaping crew in our development if famous for stealing your bananas, the mangos and the avocados in the trees. A neighbor grows pineapples, but they often mysteriously disappear. Imagine my surprise when, one morning, I decided to harvest some bananas and the whole thing was gone. I have complained at the office and I was told that their employees are beyond reproach and would never steal anything off our plants. I told them that if they believed that, I have lovely farmland I could show them at low tide.

Take care, everyone.

They are not plantains Sylvain. They are variety of cooking bananas and these are found in Asian stores. We also use these in beef stews. They can be fried or just baked or boiled Sometimes we cook them in coconut milk and mixed with sweet potatoes and sweet rice.

I suspect most bananas look alike when they are still green. The ones pictured look a lot like the ones I grew, Musa 'Sweetheart'. The fruit on mine was very soft and creamy.

Sylvain, Going Bananas in Homestead has some that are similar to the supermarket type. Check out their catalog. http://www.going-bananas.com/

Thanks Belle!!!! I will try cooking some!

These are not as sweet as the usual store ones so cooking them would bring out the natural sugars in them!!!

Jeanne,

We also wrap them in lumpia wrapper with brown sugar and jackfruit and serve it as desserts.

If interested I can give you the recipe.

Belle please give me the recipe! Thanks!

Sylvain, these bananas are about the same size as in the store.

I wish we got more per tree. I am happy we got
these. I haven't watered or fertilized them. I barely go out there anymore.

Hope everyone is well. Have a great day!

I grow the plants but they don't live long enough to bare fruit. In the old days of Weight Watchers I was a charter member. One of their recipes was to peel and roll bananas in cocoa, lay on waxed paper on a cookie sheet and freeze. Delicious.
Another trick was to freeze grapes, eat while frozen. Both are a treat.

Sounds good! I will have to try that! Good to hear from you! I was thinking back years ago when we at Randy's. Do you hear from IslandShari? I miss her.

Jen....I miss you, too!

Christi, how is your hubby and daughter healing from their knee surgeries? I hope you are doing well also.

Thanks for the recipe!
