Mourning my Magnolia

I had an Edith Borgue? Magnolia about 5 feet tall, growing crooked, so I tried stacking it. The *^&^^&* thing snapped off at the base. It's about 2 1/2 inches thick, so I thought it could take a lot more pressure than I was putting on it. My question is; Is there any chance it could regrow from the roots, or should I just give it up and plant something else?
