Metal fence sections

GLEN OAKS, NY

Hi All,
I'm looking to alternate decorative free standing fence panels with hedges. Aluminum is my first choice. I would only need about 4-6 panels to go with the planting. Anybody know of a good source for free standing fence panels?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

I know that aluminum chain link fence exists. When you say free standing do you mean without posts driven in the ground.

Hi Doug,
To clarify, I'm looking for ornamental aluminum fence sections to stand alone in between hedge shrubs. They would be free standing, anchored in the ground.
The look would be a fence section,a shrub, another fence panel, another shrub- like that. The style I'd prefer would be Victorian up through a more modern arts and crafts style.
Hope that's easier to understand.
Thanks,
Mark

I think you are going to have to look locally to find something like this, in any material.
Try hardware stores, lumber, big box stores, Mom 'n' Pop stores...

You can try searching on line then make phone calls.

Easiest solution:
Find the shape (picket size and spacing) in ANY material. See what size panels they are.
Paint them yourself.
Find decorative post caps. Then buy the posts the right size based on the caps.
Set the posts in the ground after you see what size the panels are.

As an example of how far I have had to look for fence materials, there are about 4 lumber yards near me, and another 3-4 near enough that it is a bit of a trip, but OK if that is what the client wants.
Over the years I have been to all of them, because each person wants something different, and no one store carries everything.

My first thought was to go to grower/craft/artisan markets and look for somebody who works with a metal you like and then see if they'll do something you can use. Or maybe they do something that could be attached to chain link. (If the chain link is black, with art in front of it, the chain link will practically disappear.)

Or get some sheet aluminum yourself and have at it. You could get inexpensive chisels specifically for the project at secondhand places. You might be able to roll the edges, or have rolled, so that a pipe post will go through. You'd be able to copy details on your house, if you have gingerbread for example.

Or go to re-build/Habitat type stores and look for shapes you like then do some assemblage. Car-painting places will often do fired _____-coat (brain-blank, sorry) for color, even if chrome or grey is the color you're looking for.
It just seems like a perfect opportunity for art, even if understated -- 'though 'understated' doesn't sound very Victorian, lol.

Good luck. I'll be interested to see what you come up with.

the coating 13Turtles is thinking about is Powder Coat.
It is more protective than the home-paint job, may be worth looking into.

That's it; thanks Diana.
