white substance on Kalanchoe

Madison, WI

My Kalanchoe had been doing so well until recently. There's a white substance; it seems to be originating from the plant. The leaves are also browning :( Any advice on what I should be doing to bring this plant back?

looks like the white stuff could be mealy bugs

Ditto the meally bug.

The browning leaves might be either of 2 problems. One is not really a problem. It is normal for plants to shed their old leaves. As long as more new ones are growing, that might be all that it is.
The other possibility is a bit complex:
Kalanchoes are more succulent than many house plants, so need less water.
But they are not so tough that they can get by with a lot less water. Somewhere in between.
Best option seems to be to plant them in a fast draining mix but water about as often as most other house plants. The faster draining mix will allow them to dry out better. If you are using a moisture meter, then fairly dry between waterings.
