Trade Thread for Nov 9 Rouxcrew Round Up

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

They are fabulous pruners! Could I have a Thelesperma or two?

I also have some brown eyed susan seed heads at the front gate wildflower area and a few other seed heads of Indian blanket and horse mint. Stopped at the Bryan Walmart and picked up a couple pink gaura gallon pots with very healthy plants for $2.89 each.

Let me know.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

Janet I would love to trade with you for these
Patchouli
Royal Purple Smoke Tree
Illustris Imperial Taro

Will be nice to finally meet you all.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

You got it! But I am desperately trying to go home with either NO plants or just one or two! My goal is to downgrade; I can't take care of all that I have now. So, thanks for the offer. We'll see how THAT goes!! Like a kid in a candy store...

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Woohoo! Will be so great to see you again Janet! I am tempted to try the smoke tree, even if it would be even hotter here. I soooo want one of those.

Iola, TX(Zone 8b)

Janet , can I get a spice and siamese ginger , mints and taro please?

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I will bring as many thelesperma as I can dig up. They multiply readily for me and I always have nice patches in the spring. :)

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Gotcha down Trishann :)

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Okay, I overestimated on the thelesperma. I forgot it loves caliche and crap soil! You'll probably need to clean all the yard weed from around the root but probably wouldn't be a bad idea to leave some of the original dirt with the root when replanting.

I was able to pull LOTS of oxalis bulbs. Some even have flowers. :)

The rose cuttings are on the bushy side. My bucket looks like a rose bush. I have Caldwell Pink, Spice and one of David Austin "Evelyn" I had too many buds on the others.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks to all for the plants and seeds and wonderful potluck. And special thanks to Joy and Dave for sharing your garden and farm and for your hospitality.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes I'm with Lynne...Thank you all so much for the plants I had a great time meeting you all. What a great group of DGers. Thank you Joy and Dave for hosting the RU and being so gracious. Can't forget to say thanks for all that yummy food.. And who has the recipe for those awesome cinnamon cheesecake bits?
My granddaughter says thanks for letting her feed the goats, fish and for the turtle shell she found. She loves it and is going to make a craft project with it.

Houston Heights, TX(Zone 9a)

I came home and checked my list, which I usually have with me and I think I got everthing to everyone except the pink turks cap seeds. Joy I have your mailing address but Jokenna I need yours and I will mail the seeds. You might want to winter sow.

As usual, I had a great time meeting the newbies and putting a face with a name and the rest of the DG clan until Spring. Good to see you all and to see Janet doing great. The food was delish. Thanks everyone. Thanks for the plants and the chats. Sorry I was late. Ive never been this disorganized before. No, really. It was worse than usual today.

Fulshear, TX(Zone 9b)

It was fun to finally meet all of you and a huge Thank You to Joy and Dave for their kind hospitality! I promise to be more organized for the next time.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks to everyone for coming out. I really enjoyed getting to meet our new folks and visiting with everyone! Awesome food, awesome company and as always, bunches of nifty plants that I have never seen before. The weather cooperated, if a bit grumpily, and the mosquitoes didn't overcome us.
I hope the pork wasn't too hot, I admit it was a bit warmer than I expected, but I have never made such a big batch. My youngest swept in after y'all left and inhaled a huge helping, thrilled that there was enough left for him to take back to A&M.
Carey, I have a pot of stock going on the stove this morning, thanks for the veggies. I also have a table full of plants in addition to mine, I don't know whether to curse or praise y'all. I do have a friend who just finished building a house and I hope to share some of the bounty with her. For the rest, I guess I will be digging compost and creating some more beds.
Thanks again for a wonderful RU. I am already thinking about spring's RU at the farm. And how to coordinate with new babies for y'all.

Joy

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Marty, considering I forgot to bring one of my items altogether, you have my sympathies! :)

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey I'll be back! Chuckl

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Well Joy, as long as Dave eats them happily... ;) Glad there was enough left for Evan to get a few helpings! I told DH he would've had a good time but I still got the stink eye.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Joy, I remember we talked about the lizards and skinks. Turns out the one I see most often is an introduced Gecko, but it has been given the green flag as it does not interfere with the natives. I know there are a few skinks and anoles around the house but I imagine they're getting ready to tuck in for the season. :(

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

I imagine they are with the cold y'all had last night. I hope the big mantid we saw had already finished her egg case. Maybe in the spring you can hire a youngster to catch some anoles. I a stoked that I have one, just want more. And I want my green tree frogs back. They have disappeared during these last few years of drought.

Livingston, TX(Zone 8b)

I have lots and lots of both. Must have had a hundred baby green frogs in my cannas last spring. The Anoles can be brutal to each other and we also have the Mediterranean House Gecko. They climb all over my plants.. my natural bug killer.
We don't have as many as we did since we let the chickens free range in our yard..was calling this place Leaping Lizzard Ranch but now it's Hotel Hell...lol.

Can't wait to get the chickens in the pasture so I can start my gardens and let the anoles and frogs have their space back.

Jokenna, mark both Joy and I jealous! :)

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Joy will have hers back soon and they will go after her bf cats. Chuckl

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hey! I just wanted to add my thanks to Joy and Dave for again giving up the day for our gathering. I can see y'all are constantly busy and we all appreciate your hospitality :) Mark and I had a great time. I got my cilantro planted and want to plant my butterfly pea vine seeds this weekend along with a few other winter veggie seeds. Also want to get a few more of my potted plants into the ground to make less work next summer trying to keep everything watered. Joy, I imagine alot of those leftover plants were the ones I brought, and I'm sorry for "dumping" them. If you don't have room or someone to take them, I would be more than happy to come back and get them :)
And Careyann, let your hubby know about Mark/biking/running, and he'd have someone to talk to other than plantlovers!!
Have a great winter everyone. See you next Spring!

I had never thought about the drought causing the tree frogs and toads to be missing. I have toads and tree frogs showing up and also have the Mediterranean House Gecko. I never knew its name but by the looks of it called it a gecko :) They are so cute and if you go out at night they make a cheeping sound. I also have something like a salamander with a blue tail that shows itself every now and again.
Jokenna in your second picture is that a different type of lizard or did he lose part of his mouth in a fight? He sure is interesting looking.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

Don't worry about it. I have a friend who took some for her new house, and I can handle the rest. I am still a bit overwhelmed because I got all my trades from the Dallas RU at the same time. I currently have most of my things on the south side in my pot ghetto. I probably won't get any of them planted till spring. I need to get my fruit trees in the ground first.

Carrie, look at what I found!! This guy was on the far side of the farm and I grabbed him and relocated him to the front beds. I now have two anoles. Whoop!

We will begin lambing in about a month, and the kids should start arriving sometime in January.

Lots of those up here- or will be. gonna see if my daughter has time to run out there Joy- no promises, but my arms are still too short to reach from here..

Don't sweat it Kitt. I have them tucked in with mine, all safe and sound.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Janet, I will honestly see if Dennis wants to come. He considers himself an anti-social so he purposely acts like a stick in the mud sometimes, but if he finds out he has something in common with someone - look out, you can't get him to stop talking. :)

Sandy, if you could catch a picture of that little salamander looking one, I'd love to see it! I was fascinated with how many small and colorful lizards there are in Texas! I figured the ones I had were geckos

Joy, it's fantastic you found another anole! I haven't seen any of the geckos the last couple of days, even though it's so warm and humid. Bummer. They may have given up for the year. Of course, there are so many places for them to hide I might not see them anyway. :)

Beverly Pflugerville, TX(Zone 8b)

Just happened onto this thread. My DH built me a tiny greenhouse for my birthday. At least 2 green anoles moved in before we even finished construction. Think it's their personal sauna!! But we have lots of anoles and geccos in our yard all summer, these just decided not to bury themselves for the winter.

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Welcome Beverly! Maybe you and I can carpool to Joy's in the spring! She'll let you feed bottle babies if you ask nicely. :)

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

No, I'll shove the bottles in y'all's hands to get rid of the little piranhas! LOL

Careyana---Thanks for the welcome. My husband and I went to the RU in Arlington this fall. I had a wonderful time and came home with way too many plants. LOL Very nice group of people. Have you ever attended that one? We had other things to do in Dallas, so it wasn't a one purpose trip. I had looked at going to Joy's. Will keep in mind carpooling for the spring. Thanks. Don't know about the baby feeding thing. I grew up on a dairy farm in southwest Missouri and have had plenty of bottle feeding baby animals!!

Joy--I had asked you for a pink and white crinum and received a very nice one. I didn't realize that you weren't going to be there. Thanks for the extra effort to send it.

(Joy) Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

You are so welcome. I got asked to fill in for a fellow judge at a sheepdog trial that same day and knowing they were in a bind, I gladly said yes. Fortunately for me, Marty was able to meet me on the way up and had room for my trades in her car. I tend to stay so busy in the fall and spring that it has been hard to make the Dallas one lately.
I am glad you like it. Hope to meet you in the spring.

Joy

(Carey) Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL Joy! If Piranhas were that cute, the world would be overrun with them. :)
