we may get an inch
weather in the garden #135
25° the very fine snowflakes seem to be letting up.
high of 29 and a dusting of snow
Ended up with a little more than an inch....hoping it melts soon.....very cold this morning, but temps should be moderating later today, all the way through Sunday.
Dusting of snow clinging to the tope of the car & tree branches. 30° so perhaps will melt this afternoon.
same here - warming into the high 40's this weekend
33°so not much warmer. I have to slide my feet along as the gravel driveway is icy.
Its 56 degrees in new york , just went for a nice walk and even tilled the compost that I threw in my veg garden bed. Hubby help me too.
That's a nice thought, like a summer day. We're hauling in firewood for the snowstorm that's anticipated. Catalogs are a consolation for the damp cold, and looking out the window really shows where more evergreens need to go. Temp is a balmy 42 at the moment, but within the past few days it was down to 4 F at one point overnight.
Rosemary I do hope the storm passes over you and the weather warms up soon.
Spring-like 48 degrees here today.......really enjoyed my afternoon walk......mucho rain tomorrow!
What happened to this thread? Freezing rain right now, hope it melts by morning.....I hate to be stuck inside the house. I am working on a jigsaw puzzle.....it's a cover from The New Yorker, dated exactly one year from my birthday....it looks like a scene from Maine....that's where my Dad was in the winter of 1942, building eyelet machines to make shell casings for the war effort......already know one piece is missing.....Suey chewed it up into pulp........
She is obviously better if she wants to chew. We are east of the early freezing rain, but both it & regular rain are coming. Going grocery shopping tomorrow morning to try & escape the worst weather.
bad roads this morning
Temp is now 55 with periods of heavy showers....my snow is almost gone......of course tomorrow the high temp will be 10.....crazy or what?
I was freaked out this morning when there was NOOOO snow left on the ground. Really weird-going to bed with the ground all white. I know it warmed up and rained, but really, NO snow left? It amazed me.
Rain! However we still have lots of snow. Can see tracks in it & no ice on the driveway.
currently -3 without the windchill. blowing snow earlier today, that has stopped for now.
We are at 4 degrees, minus 18 with the wind chill...record low for us. The sun is shining bright though!
Awoke to an inch of snow! Wasn't forecast, but I'm glad we have a little cover to offset today's single digits......
12° bright sun high wind gusts.
I can see my columbine plant from my front window and it is still green ,it taking the 7 degrees very well. Getting ready to start my winter sowing tomorrow .
up to 15° here. Some snow has disappeared, but still quite a bit to shield the plants.
Most of the snow was rained away here yesterday. Just a few patches in our front yard where it's lower land. It was easy to walk around and inspect the damage from our whip-sawing temps. Now it's 7 degrees. We could hear the cold front blowing in all last night.
went up to 4. started today @ -11
8° at the moment. supposed to be warmer at the weekend.
Up to 3 here.......looking forward to 40 degree temps!
we're at 12!
29° here at the warmest part of the day. A deer was out in the former pony paddock, but by the time DH got dressed in outside coat etc it was gone. So the snow must be down in the woods so they can move around.
Have not seen any deer tracks behind the dam, but followed some fox tracks yesterday......warming up to almost 30 today....yay!
28° some snow has melted warmer on /Sat but we will have rain. Not too happy about rain on frozen ground.
About an inch & 1/2 of snow fell this morning, lazy flakes right now.......rain of 1.8" is forecast for here tomorrow.......I'm sure it will end up in my basement......
Hope not. 25° light dusting of snow falling now. Supposed to change to rain.
Marilyn I hope your basement stays dry. I must say this winter I'm especially glad not to be at the house. It's the opposite of snug once the winds get going, we'd have been freezing our tails off. Not to mention breaking all our bones slipping on ice-covered stone paths!
Stay warm and dry, everyone!
33° snow, followed by light rain
When anyone mention deers I am hoping they do not come my way because my front shade garden will be attacked. There are sighting of deers on some parts of the island.
Speaking of cold weather, did anyone hear today's story on NPR? When the temp gets as low as -30 F almost 100% of the emerald ash borers perish because their larvae freeze inside the ash tree's bark. Minnesota may be saved, but places like Ohio are seeing only about a 20% mortality among the ash borer from the current artic air freeze. In new england the wooly adelgid that attacks hemlocks is facing a similar fate.
Yes....one good thing! Raining on & off here, in the 40s, snow is going fast...yippee!
43° overcast. Squirrel was on the tube feeder this morning, not quite sure how it figured out how to do it.
snow is melting, 50 and drizzle
