weather in the garden #135

South Hamilton, MA

not quite that cold here, but under 30°

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

I drove to Amerst MA this evening to get DD2. At one point the outdoor temp kept going down a degree for every mile until it bottomed out at 14 at around 6 pm near Amherst. That Quabbin reservoir valley really gets cold.

Thomaston, CT

It was supposed to be 9 degrees here last night....it was cold, I know that! Temp in the 20s today & tomorrow.....May be over or at freezing on Sunday.....hate this weather. Finally, after call #5, I got someone to plow for me this winter......

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

we lost electric yesterday from what must have been a severe car accident - down from 1PM until 10PM - wife was in full snow suit inside the house :)

looking forward to the snow coming :)!!!

South Hamilton, MA

Glad that you found someone to plow. Snow predicted here, but we are in the area which may change to rain--only about 5 miles from the ocean on the North shore.

Thomaston, CT

Snowing steadily here.....looking forward to 12"....I get very claustrophobic on days like today, I really need to get out & walk, although I'll be out with the shovel later, for sure.....Bill, you should get a small generator, not that expensive......Sad day here in CT with the Sandy Hook anniversary....cannot forget those beautiful children.....

South Hamilton, MA

if only shooter's Mom had secured her guns, the whole thing may not have happened.

Thomaston, CT

If only he had gotten the psychiatric help as well as not having guns in the house......he was very disturbed.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

some flakes now - got wired for a generator when i had the electric put in for the pond, will get one at some point

South Hamilton, MA

temp22° & wet snow, about 3/4 inch

The most recent shooter bought shotgun himself, as he was 18 he could. There is something wrong with teenage heads, as first he made enough trouble to get kicked off the debate team & then went for the teacher. As a senior it could have wrecked college chances, but why cause trouble to begin with?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

snowed all day

South Hamilton, MA

snowing this evening. Can hear the plows.

Thomaston, CT

Snowed all day, turned into freezing rain, ended up with about 5" which is not so bad....my new plow guy came before 8 this morning, & did a great job!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

DH is out with the snowblower. It's 23 out now but predicted to rise to 40 today. By the time it's dense, we'd be shoveling by hand.

South Hamilton, MA

have not measured our snow, but estimate 5-6". Plow person came early & plows were working the street throughout the night. Windy.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Now forecast is changed, temps to drop or stay in lower 20's. Our front is all clear, thanks to DH and the fleet of snowblowers they sell at Sears. We need a snowblower that can climb a lot of steps!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

about 8-10" here - stayed around 10 degrees all night - all snow has been cleared - may go x-country now - walked the trail in the morning yesterday with a hand saw and cleared out about a dozen fallen trees - mostly old white pines that cut pretty easily even if large.

South Hamilton, MA

5-6 inches here. Storm coming on tues. will be rain south of Boston, but they were not too clear to the north where we are.

Thomaston, CT

Bill, you get the Most Energy award! Hope you had fun on the trails......Looks like at least 4" here for tomorrow....I'm sick of snow already.

South Hamilton, MA

25° doesn't melt any ice. Supposed to be up to the 40s on Fri. Hope so as we are having more snow tomorrow. It is the ice that bothers, afraid of falling. As one weather man said, 'winter sun has all the heat conduction of a flashlight.'

Thomaston, CT

Oh, great anaology, Iris! How true......It's snowing here, & the temp is a cozy 12 degrees.....supposed to pick up 2-4"....

South Hamilton, MA

Snowing here again, not the big flakes this time. We are supposed to pick up 5-8" this time. How lush. We are fed through Thurs lunch except for bananas. I have a couple apples left so can have them for lunch instead.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

snowing here as well and the same totals predicted

South Hamilton, MA

6" at the moment.16° Not as wet a snow as the last storm.

Thomaston, CT

Ended up with another 4"....will be a big mess with warming temps & rain....spoke to my stepson in FL yesterday, said it was 'cool,' just around 70....I wanted to slap him!

South Hamilton, MA

Can't do that long distance ☺ 27° DH getting snow off car & walkt to driveway. I think a bit over 7" here. We were the last area which the storm cleared. Softer, less water in the snow.

Thomaston, CT

Sunny today, high in the upper 30s....going out to lunch with a few friends.....my back is still sore after shoveling the patio, walk, & 1/2" left on the drive.......please, no more snow until March when it will melt quickly!!

South Hamilton, MA

40° While it doesn't feel cold, the evaporation from the snow doesn't make it feel temperate either.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

low 40s and the snow is melting. rain on the way

Thomaston, CT

Temp was 45 yesterday......maybe 60 on Sunday...yes! Still lots of snow, but melting off the roof which is good.......

Thomaston, CT

Temp climbed to 65 yesterday! Had windows open in the house.....today it's foggy & rainy, but still warm.....the snow is gone except for a few piles from the plow.....this is such a welcome break.....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

did not get that warm here and still lots of snow - went x-country yesterday in the fog - freezing rain right now and supposed to clear up

South Hamilton, MA

not that warm here yesterday either. 32° & light rain. Supposed to be 'freezing' rain here later.

Thomaston, CT

Western MA is a lot warmer than eastern MA today....thankfully, since my niece is traveling down route 7 to CT. Weatherman reported 43 degrees in eastern CT, while it was 55 here....now down to 50, so the cold front is approaching......

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

That's funny. I think my weather was more like Connecticut. We had tons of snow yesterday but warm and foggy starting last night, then rain rain rain, and very little snow left today with the walks and trails clean.

Thomaston, CT

Only a few snow piles left near the drive....green grass makes it look like spring here......unfortunately, a clipper is supposed to deliver an inch or so tonight....I'm hoping not!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

17 and on/off flurries

South Hamilton, MA

Temp has gone from 31° to 35° unexpectedly. Clear instead of cloudy Tomorrow will be in the high 20s, followed by a couple days in the low 40s. Real yo-yo weather.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

went x-country today - still lots of snow even after the all day drizzle yesterday

merry x-mass eve!!

Thomaston, CT

After a lovely sunny day yesterday, today is cloudy & we are expecting rain & snow, maybe a 1/2" to an inch in accumulation...the birds are in a feeding frenzy at the feeder......
