Had this for a while, it didn't come with any care instructions but it's grown quite a lot, lifted it out and noticed quite a lot of root growth underneath so i suspect it needs repoting. If so any advice on which soil to use and how big a pot? Also is there anything i should/shouldn't be doing to take care of it? thanks in advance!
does this plant need to be repotted?
Hi Annakennedy, and Welcome to DG…
Yes, it does appear that your Plumosa Fern could use repotting…Here is the link to this plant in our Plant files… http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2575/
I would use a general store bought, well draining potting mix, and increase the pot size probably by one, no more than two sizes larger.
Hi tim1 thanks for you answer! should probably habe been obvious but these are the first set of houseplants that have managed to survive my 'care' and i was worried about doing anything too soon. Checked out that link and was suprised to hear a lot of negative comments about the species, but maybe it is better kept as a housplsnt than out doors. personaly i love the foliage :) thanks again x
Outdoors they can become quite rampant, and they are well armed to prevent gardeners coming along and pruning them. They are great at grabbing passers-by, too.
As a house plant they can work OK for a while, do not mind being pot-bound. When they start getting too large, toss them and start over.
