ZM, thank you for your help. Your explanation makes so much sense to me.
I found where the additional settings are. I changed it to 1280 X 1024 and the page is much better but the text is too small.
So I will continue to try to make my own changes to get DG to be less of a pain. And of course, spending less time here.
Problems still not addressed….
Thanks for addressing my concerns about other DG members having to consider upgrading their monitors to use DG (I thought that was your recommendation, not mine). The average consumer upgrades because the old one breaks down, not because they are slaves to technological trends.
MY concern has been for months and remain TAGS which you seem to have overlooked in your explanation about horizontal pixel width.
Many people have been helped with your patient explanations about settings and such. I'll bet there are just as many who just can't be bothered. I don't appreciate the way people including myself have been pacified and molified for expressing legitimate gripes about a service which we pay for with good old American dollars.
Please don't try to characterize my comments as complaints about antiquated equipment or unreasonable expectations based on science fiction movies. I have a touch screen and a computer that takes voice commands for everything but making me a cup of coffee.
My blood boils when I read your comments to the effect that the simple requests by DG members are unrealistic and impossible to achieve by the teenagers in your basement making revisions to this site.
Where are my TAGS.
A.
I changed my display to 1152 x 864.
I now don't have to scroll.
Font size is still adequate.
WOW Zen_Man! I am so impressed. I so hope you have solved this problem of having to scroll that has been so very frustrating to many. Even if not a solve all to everyone, you sure have a nice way in how you explain things.
Zen_Man, thank you for helping with the pixel information - it's the weekend, and I popped on long enough this morning to do a pre-coffee read-and-respond, and am just now logging back on.
Amanda, your tags are right where they have always been on your member page. You will soon be able to tag additional pages, but for now, you can still get to your existing tags.
I'm not sure why my explanations would make your blood boil, but if you'd care to continue the conversation with me, I invite you to do so via the "Contact Us" link, and not in this or any other forum thread. However, I do publicly assure you (and any onlookers) that we do not have teenagers in a basement making revisions to the site.
Not meaning any disrespect to anyone here, but, let's not disc the teens.
There are actually some teenagers out there who would have had this whole site fixed by now...a long time ago...
Just keepin' it real....
HA. Terri, you're a laugh riot.
Linda, is she joking or am I missing something?
You and I have been asking for TAGS since this mess started. The ability to tag items for future reference. Obviously she's placating me again. I'll just unwatch the thread now.
Esq,
We can still access the tags we set up before the site improvements.
We just can't tag anything new right now...
Please remember guys that Terry is the middleman here. You are not talking to programmers and she is relaying your concerns to programmers. Communication is the most difficult thing that humans attempt and 97% of it is non-verbal so in an email, we have to really struggle to ensure that what we think, gets transferred to the mind of another intact.
Misunderstandings are almost a given. When we express our frustration as threats, sarcasm or criticisms, it muddies the communication dilemma even more. There is a difference in complaint and a criticism. Criticism is an attack on the person whereas a complaint is about the problem. Criticism raises a persons defenses and makes them less likely to want to fix the complaint. Pros like Terry can navigate around criticism but not everyone can do that. Focus on the problem if you want to get it solved. Give information that might help the problem solver, to solve the problem.
Then there are assumptions. We get angry when we assume something that turns out not to be the way we assumed it. Sometimes we imagine scenarios to explain why something is not the way we assumed it was. Sometimes we imagine the reason is that the other person doesn't care about us or our concerns. Sometimes we imagine they are stupid or inept and that's why things are not the way we think they should be. We are human and we need an explanation for why, even if we have to assume it. It's just the way our minds work. It's not a bad thing. Sometimes we imagine the correct reason things aren't the way we want them and voila! We create a solution. Someone above did exactly that.
What we assume says a lot about us and our personal history. We base our assumptions on our experience. If those were not so great, then we jump to conclusions that match that history. If we were luckier in our personal experience, we jump to different conclusions.
I know no one asked for my 2 cents. I offer this to try to make things easier as DG tries to solve problems that users have. DG is a company. Terry is a person. She gives the problems a face (or should I say a name) but she is not the problem. The problem is the problem.
steadycam, nicely & generously put.
I agree, summerkid!
Here, here!
WE LOVE YOU, TERRY, AND WE KNOW YOU'RE DOING YOUR BEST!
Okay, for those of you with iPad text cutoff issues, if you are able, can you take a screenshot and send it to me via dmail? That will help our techs figure out the problem (as of right now, they aren't able to replicate it.)
As for tagging pages and posts, that is on their list of fixes, and should be rolled out with the next release. I don't yet have a date for that release, but when I do, I will let you know. And just a heads-up, we will probably call them bookmarks instead of tags, since that's a little more accurate word to describe them.
Uh, might I suggest sticking with "tags," since that is the term being used out in the world right now...?
Uh, might I suggest sticking with "tags," since that is the term being used out in the world right now...?
But not for the same thing.
You may "tag" a photo or post on FB or Twitter (for example) with a friend's name. That tag creates a hyperlink to their personal wall/page that others can follow, and alerts that person they've been tagged.
or
You may tag your blog posts with topical words and/or phrases that others are searching for in order to lead them to that post.
In comparison, this functionality is more similar to your browser's bookmarking function: you are saving a link to a particular page (post, photo, etc.) in order to return to it later. It's for your own use, not for others to see or follow.
Okie dokie...
I was really hoping that by now, the problems would have been addressed…Heavy sigh…I guess not…
The right hand side of the plant/birds/bug files are still cut off….Pictures and text…So sad…Tired of dealing with these abnormalities…
Must move on…May check back another time…Hope that these issues can be addressed…Frustrating!!!!
bump!
So I guess Mac/ Safari is just SOL!?!?!
Tim, I'm sorry - I thought you were an iPad user with the text cutoff issues. Is yours on a straight-up Mac (and Safari browser) setup? If so, can you shoot me a screenshot?
Sorry for not getting back sooner…Went away for a while over the frustration.
Straight-up Mac/Safari browser.
Happy to report that the files are looking much better…No right side cutoff on Plant Files anymore! Looking much better!
Thanks Terry, for your patience with all of us, and your hard work! :-)
I'm glad things have shaped up...the credit for the fixes goes to the techs - they shouldn't turn me loose with code, ever :-).
Hey Tim, Happy Birthday! Glad this site is working better for you now. Hope your day was a good one Best wishes for the year ahead.
