my cousin had to remove her white and purple bushes so she dug them up slit them with me and a friend i planted them the next day i did have them in water but they look like they are dieing the tops are all welted up if it is dieing off could it still maybe come back next you
lilac bushes
Lilacs are Ike weeds they do not die that easily and they are quite invasive. I moved to this home 7years ago and I am constantly cutting back the young shoots that spring up around the base of the plant .Just put them in potting soil in a container and they will do well until you are ready to plant them in the ground , they are sturdy perennials. I have made a lot of plants for my friends
Did you get enough of the root when the lilac was dug up? If so, lilacs can be touchy - especially if you are having high heat. Lilacs can require up to a gallon or more of water every day until they finally take. I would continue to water your new lilacs.
Good luck to you.
I would also prune them to reduce their water demands. You've severally compromised the plants ability to take up water and it can't support the water loss of all those leaves.
It could simply be transpalnt shock. Keep watering as mentioned. They should be fine.
Did you8 prepare the soil where you were planting the shrubs, you should add plenty humus as this helps keep the soil cooler in summer and also holds onto moisture long enough to allow the plant to take the moisture up, I agree with Kwanjin that they are suffering from transplant shock, all plants go into shock when we dig them out of their environment and set them into a new place, I feel sire they will do fine, after a few weeks and you see the plants perk back up again give a good mulch and add some multi purpose feed as directed on the packet or other feed of choice, this will give a little boost to help it through till next spring.
Best of Luck.WeeNel.
thank you all so much the leaves are dryed up but at the top of each branch there is little bulbs at least i think that is what it is the branches are a little green i keepy fingers crossed that it takes off now i planted one as a small start and it is like 8 inches now i guess it takes years to grow
