Rhododendron disease?

BELFAST, United Kingdom

Hi guys
I've had this wee plant for a year or so & it had previously done well although I don't remember it flowering this year. It's planted in proper ericacecous compost and fed every month with a rhododendron/azalea feed.

I'm concerned that this problem is spreading rather rapidly as it would appear much of the plant is now affected by whatever the problem is & as such I'm assuming it's from the roots upwards rather than an external pest?

Any ideas of what may be going on with it?

Thanks
TKR

My guess is that powdery mildew is just beginning to attack. Often before you see the white powdery mildew from the sporialation you can often see lighter green leaves and some purpleing just like in your pics. Some of the white flecks I am seeing on the leaves may be the begining of some sporilation? I would spray with a fungicide as a preventive measure. Could use sulfur, triadimefon, tubuconazole, or triflumizole.

Oh wonderful :( - should have thought of that a lot sooner as I had an outbreak of it a few years ago on some other plants. Seems like it's not something I'm going to maybe eradicate fully. I'll go get something asap to try & deal wtih this before it does further damage.

Thanks so much for replying & for the info.:)

Here in the US powdery mildew is a perrenial problem. Something you cant really ever erradicate so when the proper enviromental conditions persist it shows up. I would apply the fungicide at 7-10 day intervals 2-3 times and see if there is any improvement of the symptoms.

Rhododendrons don't need constant fertilization, and if you are fertilizing past May you are pushing it too fast and will probably see it die.
