Yellow BB Gun Sized Balls (eggs?) in Cherry Tree Soil

Trumbull, CT(Zone 7a)

I purchased 2 Cherry trees and found many small yellow balls in the potted soil. They have liquid inside when smashed and I'm guessing that they are eggs. I removed as many as I could but I'm sure each root ball has a lot more. I planted them, should I sprinkle an insecticide at the base of each plant?

I'm new to gardening and am interested in suggestions.

Perhaps snail eggs, but also could be the remnants of slow release fertilizer, something like Osmocote.

Thanks! I've seen Osmocote in yellow and probably a similar product in green but they were half the diameter and hard. These pop with liquid when crushed.

Are snails a problem to have around? Will they eat the roots?
I've not seen one snail around our grounds.

Snails do eat plants, but usually the more tender leaves and young stems. They do not burrow enough to eat roots unless the soil has really big pockets.

I think these are fertilizer, not snail eggs. When the fertilizer is new, it is small and hard. As the actual fertilizer is dissolved it leaves behind the little balls you are seeing, and yes, they fill with water.
