bergenia cultivation

hi,
several years ago the bergenia i planted bloomed - once. since then, there are occasional new leaves, some lateral growth, but no bloom. it sits a short distance from an azalea, and is close to dead nettle, vinca, hydrangea, lily of the valley, ginger, and iris. all of this is over the root system of a silver maple. i've dressed it with compost, and maintained the moisture, but no changes occur. any suggestions?
